It gives a general idea of what students can expect in a course as well as the list of chapters, topics, and aspects to be covered. Furthermore, it also details any requirements that may be necessary and what to expect during its duration. A course outline would include:

• Assignments/Coursework to be done
• Due dates for the coursework
• Marking criteria
• Any requirements (technological, academic, external etc.)
• Projects, helpful materials
• Necessary books as well as reference materials

A comprehensive course outline can tell a student whether or not to opt for the course. It will also help them schedule their activities and workload so as to make it work most effectively.
