Owners and general contractors hire construction managers on the strength of the buildings they have delivered. This template lets your projects lead. Its charcoal header carries a tower crane drawn in safety orange, and the page ends with a portfolio table that shows what you built, what it was worth, and whether it is finished.

The Crane on the Skyline

On the right side of the dark header stands an orange line drawing of a tower crane: a lattice mast, a long jib with cross-bracing, tie lines to the top of the mast, a grey counterweight, and a hook lowering an orange load. Your name is set on the left in white Zilla Slab, a sturdy slab serif, with your title and certifications in spaced orange capitals and your contact details stacked beneath. A thick orange rule closes the header.

How the Page Is Built

The main column holds your profile, experience, and project portfolio. Each role starts with the dates in small orange capitals, then the job title in Zilla Slab and the company in orange. The portfolio is a three-column table with a charcoal header row: project, value, and status, with Completed in green and In progress in orange. The side column shows three key numbers in large type: your expertise list, education, and certifications.

Choosing Projects for the Portfolio

Three projects fit cleanly. Choose the ones that best match the employer's work: a hospital contractor wants healthcare jobs, a multifamily developer wants apartments. Describe each in a few words, such as Riverside medical office, 4 stories, and give the contract value. If a project is still underway, keep it and mark it as in progress; it shows you are trusted with live work right now.

Key Numbers That Win Interviews

NumberWhy it mattersExample
Total value builtScale of responsibility$300M+
Safety recordRisk, insurance, and reputation0 lost-time incidents since 2018
On-schedule ratePlanning and control92% of projects on schedule

Superintendents Moving Up

If you are a superintendent aiming for a project or construction manager role, show the decisions you already make: sequencing, subcontractor coordination, look-ahead schedules, and owner walk-throughs. Put the largest project you ran day-to-day in the portfolio, and add any estimating, budgeting, or change-order work you have handled. Certifications like PMP, OSHA 30, and LEED Green Associate help close the gap.

Safety Leadership on Your Resume

Owners and insurers look closely at a construction manager's safety record. Give it a number in the key figures column, then back it up in your bullets: weekly toolbox talks, site-specific safety plans, pre-task planning with subcontractors, and how you handled near misses. If your projects earned safety awards or zero-incident milestones, name them with the year. A strong safety record often tips the balance between two candidates with similar portfolios.

Site Adjustments in Word

  • The charcoal header, crane drawing, load, and orange rule are shapes in the page header. Double-click near the top of the page to recolor them, for example, to a company's brand color.
  • The portfolio table is a normal Word table; add a row from the Layout tab and type over the status to change its wording.
  • Key numbers are plain text in the side column, so any figure can be swapped in seconds.

Fonts, Size and Delivery

Zilla Slab and Open Sans are free on Google Fonts. The template fits one US Letter page. Send a PDF to owners and recruiters, and keep a printed copy for interviews where you may want to point to a project in the table.
