Recruiters for trucking companies read hundreds of applications a week, and they look for the same things every time: license class, endorsements, experience, safety record. This resume puts those answers where a recruiter's eyes land first, inside a design every driver will recognize from the road.

Signs Along the Route

Your name is set in large white Roboto Condensed capitals on a green highway sign with a white inner border, just like an interstate marker. Beside it, a cream license plate with a dark outline shows CDL A in bold blue, with Commercial Driver above and your endorsements in red below. Down the left edge of the page runs a strip of asphalt with white edge lines and a dashed yellow center line, so the whole resume reads like a road trip.

Under the sign, your contact details run in one line. Four grey tiles show your strongest numbers: safe miles driven, preventable accidents, on-time deliveries, and states covered. The main column holds your profile, driving experience, safety record, and awards. A side column lists license and endorsements, equipment you can run, skills, and CDL training.

Endorsements and Equipment

Many jobs are only open to drivers with certain endorsements, so list every one you hold: Hazmat (H), Tanker (N), Doubles/Triples (T), and combination X. Add your TWIC card and DOT medical card status. The equipment chips show what you can run, from dry van and reefer to flatbed and tanker, plus whether you drive manual or automatic. Keep these lists accurate; carriers will verify them.

Safety and Compliance Say More Than Adjectives

A safe driver means little on its own. Show it with a clean MVR and PSP report, a record of passing DOT roadside inspections, full hours-of-service and ELD compliance, and defensive driving training such as the Smith System. If you have earned safe-driving awards or million-mile recognition, list them with dates. These facts lower a carrier's insurance risk, and they know it.

Local, Regional or Over-the-Road?

Tailor the top of the page to the kind of driving you want. For local jobs, stress delivery counts, customer service, and liftgate or hand-truck work. For regional roles, highlight your lanes, home-time pattern, and on-time record. For over-the-road positions, lead with total miles, states covered, and how long you have run solo or as part of a team. A recruiter matching drivers to routes will read these details first.

New CDL Holders

If you have just finished CDL school, use the stat tiles for training hours, practice miles, and your school's pass result. List your training school in the experience section with the equipment and routes you trained on, and add any earlier jobs that show reliability, such as delivery driving, warehouse work, or military service.

Changing the Sign and Plate in Word

  • The highway sign, its border, the license plate, and the road are shapes in the page header. Double-click near the top of the page to edit them; the plate text is three text boxes you can retype.
  • Your name and title sit on top of the sign as normal text.
  • Stat tiles and equipment chips are table cells; type over them.

Fonts and Sending

Roboto Condensed and Open Sans are free on Google Fonts. The resume is one US Letter page. Most carriers apply online, so save a PDF and keep the Word file handy for quick edits when a recruiter asks for a different version.
