Restaurant managers hire servers who are fast, friendly, and good at selling. They also hire people who would fit the vibe of their dining room. This resume shows you understand the job from the moment they see it: the header is an order ticket, complete with a red strip, ruled lines, and a torn bottom edge, and your skills are listed as Today's Specials.

Your Name on the Ticket

The page has a soft mint background. At the top sits a cream guest check with a tomato-red strip that reads Guest check · No. 0412 on the left and Table 12 · Server 07 on the right. Faint ruled lines cross the ticket, and its bottom edge is cut in a zigzag, as if torn off the pad. Your name is written across it in Arvo, a friendly slab serif, with your role in teal capitals and your contact details in one line below. A red strip runs along the bottom of the page.

Today's Specials

On the right, inside a white box with a dashed teal border, the heading Today's Specials lists what you bring to every shift, with a dotted line to dollar signs that rate each strength from $$ to $$$. Below it, Shift Stats shows your average guest rating, sales per shift, and tip rate. It is playful, but it gives a manager real information in a format they will remember.

Experience the Way Managers Read It

Restaurant managers want to know the kind of places you have worked, how busy they were, and what you were trusted with. Name the style of restaurant, the number of covers, and your section size. Mention private parties, VIP service, training new staff, or bartending shifts. Awards like Server of the Month carry real weight in hospitality, so list them with dates.

First Serving Job?

If you have hosted, bussed, or worked in a café or fast-food restaurant, you already have relevant experience. Put those roles in the experience section and focus on speed, teamwork, and guest care. Get your food handler certificate and responsible alcohol service training before you apply; many restaurants require them on day one, and having them shows initiative.

Fine Dining or Casual?

For fine dining, emphasize wine knowledge, steps of service, allergen care, and composure with demanding guests. For casual and high-volume restaurants, stress speed, accuracy, upselling, and teamwork during the rush. Adjust the Today's Specials list to match, and change the ticket's table and server numbers to anything you like.

The Stage Shift

Many restaurants ask candidates to work a short trial shift. Arrive early, learn table numbers fast, and ask before you act. Managers watch how you treat the kitchen and bussers as closely as how you treat guests.

Editing the Ticket in Word

  • The ticket, red strip, ruled lines, specials box, and bottom strip are shapes in the page header. Double-click near the top of the page to edit them or retype the ticket labels.
  • The specials list uses dotted tab leaders, so prices line up neatly however long each item is.
  • Shift stats are plain text you can change in seconds.

Typefaces and Handing It Over

Arvo and Open Sans are free from Google Fonts. The resume fits one US Letter page. Many restaurants still hire on walk-ins, so print a few copies, and keep a PDF for online applications.
