The calendar that we follow these days is known as the lunar calendar which is based on the orbital rotation of the earth around the sun. A month is equal to the time it takes for the moon to complete one of its orbits around the earth, a year, on the other hand, is a period of an average of 365 days that are required for the earth to complete its revolution around the sun.
