Students who win an election for student council, or who are chosen as prefects, class officers or house captains, take on real responsibility. They speak for their classmates, help run assemblies, welcome visitors and set an example in the corridors. A leadership ID card recognises that role and helps it work in practice: teachers and visitors can see at a glance who the student leaders are. This Student Council ID Card is designed like a badge of office, with the student’s photo inside a gold-framed shield under a row of stars.
A Shield for Student Leaders
The top half of the card is a strong royal blue with five white stars in a row, the school name, LINCOLN ACADEMY, in white Montserrat, and STUDENT COUNCIL in gold capitals. The student’s photo is cut into a shield shape with a thick gold border, and the shield is placed so that it overlaps the edge of the blue block and the pale lower half of the card. The effect is of a badge pinned to a blazer.
Beneath the shield, the student’s name is set in bold navy, Sophia Reed on the sample, with a gold pill naming the office: STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT. A four-row table shows the student ID, grade, term of office, and validity date. Our logo sits on a white plate, and a blue footer band carries a row of small gold stars that echo the header.
The design follows the vertical CR80 standard: 2.125 inches wide and 3.375 inches high.
The Leadership Pass
On the back, a blue header reads LEADERSHIP PASSES with the school and council in gold. The rest of the card is a small handbook for the student leader:
- Council meetings: a table with day, time, and room, for example, Monday at 3:15 in the library and Thursday at 7:45 in Room 201.
- My responsibilities: four duties with gold star bullets: represent every student’s voice, help lead assemblies and events, model the school code of conduct, and welcome and support new students.
- QR code: labelled Scan: student voice form, which can link to a suggestion form so any student can share an idea with the council.
- Advisor contacts: the staff advisor’s name, the council email, and office room.
- Signatures for the student and the advisor.

Editing the Lincoln Academy Card
- Shield photo: click the shield and choose Replace Image. The picture takes the shield’s shape and keeps its gold border.
- School name: retype LINCOLN ACADEMY and, if your group has a different name, STUDENT COUNCIL (Student Government, Student Union, Prefect Team).
- Office: edit the gold pill to the student’s role from the table above.
- Tables: once a table is selected, the Edit Data button opens its rows for editing, whether ID details, meeting times, or advisor contacts.
- Duties: each responsibility line is a separate text box, so you can rewrite them for each role.
- QR code: link it to your suggestion box form, council web page, or social account using the Barcodes & QR panel.
Leading by Example
A student leader’s card is a small reminder that the role comes with expectations. Many schools present these cards at an installation or induction assembly, where new council members make a short pledge. Advisors can use the responsibilities list on the back as a talking point at the first meeting: what does representing every student’s voice look like in practice? How will the council collect ideas from quieter students? The QR code linked to a suggestion form is a practical answer that council members can share with classmates on the spot.
Making the Card Part of Election Season
Some schools also print a version of this card for candidates during election week, changing the pill to CANDIDATE and the back to the candidate’s key promises. After the election, winners receive the official council card. This keeps campaigns positive and gives every candidate something to be proud of, whether or not they win. Keep the design identical for all candidates so no one gains an advantage from a flashier card.
Who Uses Leader Badges
Middle and high school student councils, primary school councils, prefect and monitor teams, house and sports captains, student ambassadors who give school tours, peer mentors, youth parliaments and university student unions can all adapt this design. Clubs such as debate, model UN and robotics teams can also make leader cards for their captains.
Print and Presentation Ideas
For a formal presentation, print the cards on PVC and hand them over in a clear holder with a lanyard in school colours. The royal blue and gold print strongly on any good colour printer; check that the gold border around the shield stays bright rather than mustard. A small batch printed at a print shop with gold foil on the stars and shield border makes a memorable keepsake at the end of the year.
Running Effective Council Meetings
A leadership card can also support better meetings. Put the meeting days on the back so no one forgets, and use the QR code to collect ideas before each meeting, so the agenda reflects what students actually care about. Keep meetings short and focused: review suggestions, choose one or two projects, assign a lead for each, and agree on what will be reported back to classes. Advisors often find that councils with a clear routine and visible roles, reinforced by their cards, achieve far more across the year.
Student Council Questions
Can we print one design for the whole council?
Yes. Duplicate the card for each member and change the photo, name, and role pill.
Is the shield shape fixed?
The photo is a shield-shaped slot, so any photo you add takes that shape. You can recolour the gold frame behind it.
What happens at the end of the term?
Update the term and validity dates for the new council and reprint. Outgoing members often keep their cards as souvenirs.
Open the template, place each leader in the shield, and give your student council a badge that matches the responsibility they carry.
