A Warm Cover for a Report That Should Feel Approachable
Many business reports use blue and grey. This one uses a warm cream background and deep crimson, which makes a report stand out on a desk. A large round photograph with a crimson tint sits at the centre, framed by two curved crimson shapes, and the title BUSINESS REPORT is set in heavy red capitals below. It suits retail, hospitality, education and service businesses.
Crimson Shapes and the Tinted Circle
The page is 8.5 x 11 inches, portrait, one page. Two crimson wedges flank a large round photo of a hand pointing at a chart on a desk, which has a pink wash over it. Text appears on the photo: BUSINESS HEADLINE, LOREM IPSUM SIMPLY DUMMY TEXT and a smaller line. Wedges and wash are graphics, and the photo can be swapped.
Text on the Photo
The words on the photo are placeholders. Replace BUSINESS HEADLINE with a short topic, and the white line with a message of about five words. Because the photo is tinted, white text reads well. If you replace the picture, keep the tint or the text may become hard to see.
Top Corners and the Year
At the top left, BUSINESS HEADLINE in crimson and Lorem ipsum dolor in black form a small label. The year, 20XX, appears at the top right with XX in crimson. Enter your year and a short label, for example the department or branch.
Title, Subtitle and Credits
BUSINESS REPORT in huge crimson capitals is followed by SUB-TITLE OF THE BUSINESS and a short crimson rule. At the bottom, PREPARED BY: FIRST, LAST NAME and PREPARED FOR: BUSINESS NAME sit side by side, with a solid crimson bar at the right. Use the subtitle for the period or the topic, for example Third Quarter Results.
What a General Business Report Covers
- A summary of results against targets.
- Sales, costs and profit in plain tables.
- Customers, staff and operations updates.
- Risks and what the team will do about them.
- Goals for the next period.
Editing and Printing for the Crimson Report Cover
The fonts are Poppins and Teko. All text edits freely. The cream background prints as a light tint, so use a colour printer. For a plain white version, ask a print shop to print on cream stock instead.
Choosing the Subtitle Wisely
The subtitle tells readers which part of the business the report covers. Use words such as Retail Division, Q3 Results or Customer Service Review. A precise subtitle saves time when many reports sit in the same folder, and it helps search tools find the file later.
Using Colour Carefully in the Report
The cover uses crimson, which shows strongly on the page. Use the same crimson for headings and table headers, and keep charts to two or three colours. Check printed pages for contrast, since pink tints can look pale on some printers.
Consider the business case report cover. Similar designs include the internal and external reports cover. Compare it with the annual report cover page. The rest of the series around the crimson report cover is in business and report cover pages.
