A Voucher With a Character
Most holiday vouchers rely on Santa or a snowman. This one stars a small white mouse struggling cheerfully with a present nearly as big as itself. The scene is gentle and funny, which makes it a good match for children, teachers, and anyone who wants a gift voucher that raises a smile before it is read.
Scene by Scene
The voucher is 8.5 x 4 inches in landscape. The background is a deep indigo night sky, layered with soft wave-shaped clouds in lighter periwinkle toward the bottom. Faint outlines of snowflakes and hanging ornaments drift in the dark. On the left the mouse, drawn in plain white, tiptoes forward with a tall gift box on its back. The box has blue polka dots and a tied bow on top, and the mouse wears a spotted scarf in the same blue.
At the upper right, HAPPY HOLIDAYS is spelled out in thin white outline capitals with tiny snowflakes tucked inside the letters. Beneath it are the words A GIFT FOR YOU, with GIFT in a lighter tone, and four fields set in italic: To, From, Amount and Signature.
What Goes in Each Field
| Field | Placeholder shown | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| To | (Recipient Name) | Type the name, or delete the prompt and write by hand |
| From | (Sender Name) | Add the giver, a family, or a business |
| Amount | $ | Enter a value, or turn it into a promise such as Movie Night |
| Signature | A plain line | Leave for a pen, ideally a white or silver gel pen |
Writing on a Dark Background
Because the card is a deep blue, a normal black pen will barely show. A white, silver or gold gel pen works well, and a paint marker is bolder still. If you would rather print everything, type the names in the editor first. Print a test on plain paper to check that the pale lettering is easy to read before you commit to card stock.
Good Uses for This Design
- A class treat from a teacher, such as a homework pass.
- A promise voucher from a child to a parent.
- A small shop offering a child-friendly gift voucher.
- A neutral workplace gift with no religious symbols.
Changing and Printing
All four field labels and prompts are ordinary text. The mouse, the clouds and the HAPPY HOLIDAYS lettering are artwork. If you want a different greeting, remove the lettering and add your own text in a font you like. The card is 8.5 inches wide, the full width of a letter sheet, so choose Fit to page or trim from a larger sheet. Use 250 to 300 gsm matte card stock to keep the blue deep.
A Cloud-Themed Gift Idea
The soft clouds and the sleepy night colours suit gifts about rest and comfort: a bedtime story evening, a lie-in on Sunday, an afternoon nap that nobody is allowed to disturb. Write the promise on the Amount line and sign it with a flourish. A voucher that gives time rather than money often lasts longer in memory than a gadget.
