Start With the Shop Floor, Not the Snowman
Most Christmas gift certificate designs lean on Santa and snowmen. A retail shop does not always want that. This design shows a real aisle: a mall or store lit for the holidays, a decorated tree at the end and shelves of colourful stock. It tells the buyer that the certificate is for shopping in a place like yours, and that is more persuasive than clip art.
Layout and Colours
The card is landscape, 3.375 x 2.125 inches, the size of a credit card. The base is near black with faint snowflake outlines. A bold amber yellow shape curves up from the bottom and around the photograph on the right, framing the image in a rounded triangle. The headline stacks two lines: Retail Store in a yellow italic script, and CHRISTMAS GIFT CERTIFICATE in white condensed capitals underneath.
A yellow pill shape sits below the headline with the message “We wish you a warm and joyful holiday season!” Down the left are four lines for details, and a shopping basket icon with the words STORE LOGO sits at the bottom left.
The Four Lines to Fill
- Recipient Name
- Amount, with Issued By on the same row
- Gift Certificate Name
- Valid Until
The line called Gift Certificate Name is useful if you offer different tiers, such as a Starter Pack and a Premium Pack. If you prefer a number, retype the label to Gift Certificate Number.
Adapting It to Your Store
- Replace the basket icon and STORE LOGO with your own logo.
- Change the words Retail Store to what you sell, for example Toy Store, Bookshop or Boutique.
- Click the photograph, choose Replace Image, and use a picture of your own shop at Christmas. A real photo from your own aisle builds trust better than a stock picture.
- Recolour the amber shape to match your brand. A red or a teal accent still reads clearly on the black background.
- Edit the greeting so it sounds like you, or shorten it to fit your style.
Notes for Store Owners
Gift certificates are a classic December lifeline for retailers, because they bring in cash early and the redemption often happens in January, when stock is cheaper to move. Always print an expiry or a clear note on the terms, and keep a record of every certificate number issued so a lost card can be traced. Heavy card stock, 250 to 300 gsm, gives the certificate a good feel at the till. A letter sheet holds eight of them, so a hundred certificates need only a few pages.
If you also run an online shop, see the online shopping Christmas gift certificate, which uses a similar field list with a laptop photo. Gift cards for a general audience are available in our Christmas gift certificates category.
Retail Certificate Questions
Can I print on both sides?
Yes. Duplicate the page, remove the picture, and add redemption terms, store hours and address.
Is the text in the photo editable?
The photo is an image, so it cannot be edited as text. Replace it with your own picture instead.
