In the center, a clean white panel keeps the main information easy to read, with space for the student’s name, grade, teacher, and school year.
You can customize the template online directly in your browser. No login is required, and once you are happy with your personalized sign, you can download it in PDF, PNG, or JPG format.
A Ready-Made Sign for First-Day Photos
First-day-of-school photos have become a popular way for families to remember the start of each academic year. A personalized sign makes those photos more meaningful because it records useful details that may otherwise be forgotten over time.
Instead of holding a plain piece of paper or creating a sign from scratch, this template gives you a complete design that is already arranged and ready to personalize.
The large “First Day of School” title immediately explains the occasion, while the customizable information section makes each version unique to the student.
You can add details such as:
- Student name
- Grade level
- Teacher name
- School year
These simple details turn a regular first-day photo into a more personal record of the moment.
Designed with a Fun School Theme
This template uses a colorful, child-friendly design that fits naturally with the excitement of returning to school.
The green grid-style background gives the poster a classic classroom feel, while school-themed illustrations appear around the edges. These include books, numbers, pencils, paint supplies, a calculator, a laptop, and students participating in learning activities.
The word “School” is displayed in several bright colors, helping the main heading stand out and adding a playful look to the design.
At the same time, the center section remains clean and uncluttered so the personalized information stays easy to read.
Personalize the Sign for Any Student
The sample design shows a school year and blank spaces for student details, but these elements can be adapted to suit your own needs.
You can personalize the sign for:
Preschool: Add the child’s name, preschool level, and teacher.
Kindergarten: Create a special keepsake for a student’s first official year at school.
Elementary school: Update the grade each year and use the same type of sign for annual photos.
Homeschool: Replace the classroom details with your own homeschool information.
Learning centers or tutoring programs: Adapt the wording to mark the beginning of a new learning term.
Because the information can be edited, the template can work for many different ages and educational settings.

You do not need special design software to customize this First Day of School Sign.
The template can be edited using the online browser-based editor, allowing you to personalize the design without downloading or installing a separate application.
There is also no login required to begin editing.

This makes the template especially useful for parents and teachers who want something attractive without spending a lot of time learning complicated design tools.
What Information Can You Add?
The current layout includes dedicated spaces for the most useful first-day details.
You can fill in:
Name: Add the student’s first name or full name.
Grade: Enter the student’s current grade or class level.
Teacher: Add the name of the classroom teacher or instructor.
School year: Update the year shown at the top of the design.
Depending on the editing options available, you may also adjust other text to better match the way you plan to use the sign.
The simple information layout makes the finished sign easy to understand at a glance, which is particularly helpful when it is being held in a photograph.
A Simple Way to Create a Year-by-Year School Memory
One useful idea is to create a personalized first-day sign every year.
For example, you could use the same general style for kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and beyond. Over time, the resulting photos can create a visual record of the student’s school journey.
Because each sign can include the year, grade, and teacher, looking back at the photos later can bring back details that may be difficult to remember otherwise.
Parents may choose to save the digital files along with family photos, while teachers may use personalized signs for classroom welcome activities or student portfolios.
Useful for Parents, Teachers, and Schools
Although this design works especially well as a first day of school photo sign, it can be used in several ways.
Parents can personalize it before the first morning of school and have their child hold it for a photo.
Teachers can prepare individual signs for students during classroom welcome activities.
Schools and learning centers can adapt the sign for first-day events, student introductions, or beginning-of-year displays.
Homeschool families can use it to mark the start of a new grade or learning year at home.
Its clear layout and broad school theme make it flexible enough for different educational settings.
