Few things are more frustrating than finding a stranger’s car blocking your driveway, loading bay, or fire lane. A clear, official-looking No Parking sign stops most of those problems before they start, and it is often the first step if you ever need to have a vehicle towed. This No Parking Sign Template follows the familiar look of regulatory parking signs, a white panel with a red border and a crossed-out P, and adds the details that make a tow-away warning credible: who tows, how to reach them, and where the zone begins and ends.
Built Like a Standard Parking Sign
The sign is 12 x 18 inches in portrait, the most common size for parking and regulatory signs in the United States, and the size of most blank aluminium sign panels. It has a white background with a thick red border and rounded corners. Two small grey circles near the top and bottom centre mark where the mounting holes go, so your print shop or you can drill in the right places.
The top half is the symbol: a heavy black letter P, set in Overpass, a typeface modelled on highway signage, under a bold red ring with a diagonal slash. Below it, NO and PARKING are stacked in black Overpass Black capitals. A solid red band across the sign carries TOW-AWAY ZONE in white. The next lines explain the consequence (Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense) and name the towing company with its phone number in red. A black double-headed arrow near the bottom shows that the restriction applies on both sides of the sign. A small grey logo sits in the lower-right corner, clear of the arrow and the mounting hole.
What Each Line Is For
Know the Local Towing Rules
This is the most important section on this page. In many US states and cities, a private property owner may only tow a vehicle if the property has signs meeting specific requirements, which can include a minimum sign size, placement at each entrance, the name and phone number of the towing company, the address where towed cars are stored, the hours and the cost of recovery, and sometimes a reference to the relevant law. Requirements differ widely from place to place. Before relying on this sign for towing, check your city or state rules, or ask the towing company you contract with; most can tell you exactly what their signs must say. The template gives you plenty of room to add extra lines if your area requires them: reduce the font size of the explanation line and add the storage address underneath.
Customising the Sign
- Click the towing line and enter the real company name and number.
- Edit the explanation line to match your policy, such as Violators towed 24/7 or Residents with permit only.
- For a one-way restriction, ungroup the arrow and delete one arrowhead; Flip Horizontal, then point it the other way if needed.
- Change NO PARKING to another instruction, such as NO PARKING ANY TIME, FIRE LANE, or LOADING ZONE, keeping the words large.
- If the sign is for a specific time, add a line such as 7 AM – 6 PM Mon – Fri under PARKING.
The ring and slash are grouped, and the letter P is a separate text box behind them, so you can change the P to another letter or symbol if needed.
Common Places for a Tow-Away Sign
- Private driveways and the space in front of a garage
- Fire lanes and emergency access routes at apartment complexes
- Loading docks and delivery bays behind shops
- Customer-only lots next to popular venues
- Gates, alleys and access roads that must stay clear
Materials and Mounting
For a permanent sign, download the PDF and have it printed on a 12 x 18 inch aluminium panel with a reflective or UV-resistant laminate; aluminium signs last for years outdoors and can be bolted to a post, wall or fence. Corrugated plastic is cheaper and fine for temporary restrictions, such as during construction or an event. Mount the sign at eye level for drivers, usually about five to seven feet from the ground to the bottom of the sign, facing incoming traffic, at every entrance to the restricted area. For short-term use indoors or on a door, print it on US Letter and laminate it; the proportions scale down well.
Keep It Visible
A sign that is hidden behind a bush or faded to pink is easy to argue with. Check your signs every few months, trim plants around them, and replace them if the red starts to fade. Take a dated photo of each sign in place; if you ever have a dispute over a towed vehicle, being able to show that the sign was clearly visible helps enormously.
No Parking Sign FAQ
Can I print it larger?
Yes. Change the canvas size in the editor to 18 x 24 inches and scale the elements proportionally if your area requires a bigger sign.
Do I have to include a towing company?
If you plan to tow, it is often required and always helpful. If the sign is only a request, you can replace the band with PLEASE KEEP CLEAR.
Can I use it for reserved parking?
Yes. Change NO PARKING to RESERVED and the band to the name of the person or unit, such as Unit 4B.
Clear Space, Fewer Arguments
Fill in your towing details, check the local rules, and mount the sign where every driver sees it before pulling in. A professional, legible parking sign keeps your space clear far more politely than a note on a windscreen ever could.
