Mathematicians spend their lives on squared paper, sketching functions, checking limits, and drawing the picture that makes a proof click. This cover is built on exactly that paper. The whole page is a blue grid, two curves are plotted across the top, a large sigma stands in the corner, and your title sits in a crisp white box like a theorem statement framed on the page. It suits analysis, algebra, statistics, applied mathematics, and any course where you write a paper, project, or senior thesis in mathematics.

Squared Paper, Two Curves and a Sigma

A fine pale-blue grid covers the full page, with slightly darker lines every fifth square, like engineering pad paper. In the upper half, black axes cross near the left, and two curves are drawn: a blue wave that rises, falls, and fades as it travels right, and a red parabola that arcs over it. In the top right, a large blue ? (sigma, the summation sign) stands like a logo. Below, a white box with a blue outline holds a small red label, Mathematics Paper, set in DM Mono; the title, Convergence of Fourier Series for Piecewise Smooth Functions, in DM Serif Display; and a formula in blue monospace: f(x) ~ a?/2 + ? (a? cos nx + b? sin nx). Six details sit on the grid below the box, and a solid blue footer band carries the words Theorem · Proof · Examples · Q.E.D. ? beside the logo on a light plate.

The Formula Line Is Your Thesis in Symbols

In most subjects, the thesis is a sentence. In mathematics, it is often an equation, an inequality, or a statement about a function. The formula line in the title box gives you space to write the central object of your paper. For a Fourier series paper, the series itself is natural. For other topics, choose the formula a reader would expect to see on the first page.

Formula Ideas by Topic

Typing Mathematical Symbols

The editor uses ordinary text boxes, not an equation editor, so you type symbols as Unicode characters. Many are easy to copy: ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? and ?. Subscript digits (? ? ? ?) and superscripts (² ³ ?) are also available as characters. Copy them from a character map, a symbol website, or your word processor’s symbol menu, then paste them into the text box. DM Mono includes many of these glyphs and shows them clearly. For very complex expressions, write a simpler headline version on the cover and give the full statement inside the paper.

Writing a Mathematics Title

Mathematics titles should be precise and searchable. They usually name the object studied and the property proved: Convergence of Fourier Series for Piecewise Smooth Functions states both. Avoid symbols in the title itself if you can; they cause trouble in library catalogues and search engines. The Prime Number Theorem is better than ?(x) ~ x / ln x, which is why the formula line exists separately.

Author Details on the Grid

Below the title box, six details sit in two columns: Author (Sofia Petrova), Course (MATH 421 Real Analysis), Instructor (Prof. Alan Whitaker), Institution (Lakeshore University), Student ID (MTH-30117), and Date (May 6, 2027). Labels are small blue DM Mono capitals and values are set in DM Serif Display. Click a value to edit it. For a senior thesis, change Instructor to Advisor and add a line for the second reader.

Changing the Curves

The axes and curves are one group. You can move or resize them together, or ungroup and delete one curve to simplify. If you want the picture to match your topic more closely, draw your own curve: plot your function in a graphing tool, export it as an SVG or PNG with a transparent background, and add it in place of the sample curves. A probability paper might show a bell curve; a dynamical systems paper, a spiral; a number theory paper, a step-shaped prime-counting function.

Proof-Writing Reminders Before You Submit

The footer band reads Theorem · Proof · Examples · Q.E.D. ?, the rhythm of mathematical writing. Before submitting, check that every theorem has a clear statement, every proof ends with ? or Q.E.D., every symbol is defined before it is used, and examples or counterexamples show why each hypothesis is needed. Number your theorems and equations so you can refer to them. Mathematical writing rewards complete sentences around equations; read your proofs aloud to check they flow.

LaTeX Users: Pairing the Cover With Your PDF

Many mathematics students write papers in LaTeX. You can still use this cover. Download it as a PDF, then combine it with your LaTeX output using a PDF tool, or include it as the first page of your document with the pdfpages package: includepdf{cover.pdf}. Make sure your LaTeX document does not also produce its own title page, or use maketitle only on the second page.

Colours for Other Mathematical Fields

The blue grid and blue footer feel like a classic engineering pad. For statistics, switch the accent to green; for pure mathematics, deep purple is elegant. Change the grid group’s line colour, the title box outline, the sigma, and the footer band together. Keep the grid very light so it never fights with the text.

Printing Fine Grid Lines

The page is US Letter, 8.5 x 11 inches. The grid lines are thin and pale, so print at normal or best quality; draft mode may lose them. Laser printers give the crispest grid. Download as a PDF and print at actual size so the squares stay even.

Mathematics Cover FAQ

Is this suitable for a statistics report?

Yes. Change the label to Statistics Report and the formula to the model you fit.

Can I remove the grid for a cleaner look?

Yes. Select the grid group and delete it; the white page with curves and title still works.

What does the sigma mean?

? is the summation symbol. It suits series, sums, and statistics; replace it with ? or ? if those fit your topic better.
