Why Sales Staff Need Proof of Employment
Salespeople change employers often, and their income may include commission, so lenders, landlords and new employers ask for clear proof of what they did. A good certificate of employment for sales personnel confirms the role, the department, the type of contract, the working hours and the pay arrangement, and it says something about how the person performed against targets. This template gives you that structure in a one page letter.
The Page Itself
The letter is Letter size portrait, 8.5 x 11 inches. A thin red dashed line runs around the page as a border. In the top left, COMPANY NAME is set in bold black capitals, and at the top right a small block holds the company address, city, state and zip code, phone number and email address. The title is printed in red serif capitals across two lines: Certificate Of Employment For Sales Personnel.
Below the title is a Date line and the greeting To Whom It May Concern. The first paragraph confirms that the employee, with nationality, has been employed as sales personnel at the company. Then comes a bulleted list: Position, Department (already set to Sales Department), Employment Type, Employment Duration, Work Hours and Salary. A paragraph follows about the employee’s sales skills, dedication to meeting and exceeding targets and key responsibilities, and a final line says the certificate is issued at the employee’s request. At the bottom, a signature line holds the authorised signatory’s name and designation.
Filling the Details List
| Item | Sample entry |
|---|---|
| Position | Account Manager |
| Department | Sales Department |
| Employment Type | Full-Time, Permanent |
| Employment Duration | From 3 February 2021 to Currently Employed |
| Work Hours | 40 hours per week |
| Salary | Monthly base pay, plus commission as per contract |
Handling Commission
The Salary line gives a monthly or hourly rate. For sales staff, pay often includes commission. Decide what you want the certificate to show. If the reader needs a total income figure, say so clearly, for example “base salary of 2,400 per month plus commission, averaging 900 per month over the last twelve months,” and make sure payroll can back it up. If you prefer not to give an average, state only the base salary and say that commission is paid under the sales plan.
Writing the Skills Paragraph
The placeholder text mentions responsibilities such as developing client relationships, negotiating contracts and managing accounts. Replace the bracketed phrase with the actual duties. A line like “managing a portfolio of forty corporate clients and negotiating annual supply contracts” is specific and useful. Avoid exaggeration: the person may need to defend each claim in an interview.
Presentation
Print on company letterhead or add a logo near the name. Sign in ink and add a company stamp where customary. The dashed border sits near the edge, so check the margins on a test print. A copy for the employee file and a scanned copy for records keep things tidy.
For other roles in the same layout style, see the IT professionals certificate and the security personnel certificate. All are in employment certificates.
