Credit Card Applications Ask Three Questions About Work
When someone applies for a credit card, the bank wants to know whether they have a job, how long they have had it and what they earn. Online forms collect the numbers, but some banks ask for a letter from the employer as proof, especially for first time applicants or higher limits. This certificate answers those three questions in a short, formal letter that names the bank it is meant for.
Navy and Gold Swooshes
The page is Letter size landscape, 11 x 8.5 inches. Deep navy and golden swooshes curve in from the left and right edges, like the edges of a card. At the top centre, a square logo and the words COMPANY NAME lead into the script heading Certificate of Employment, with FOR CREDIT CARD APPLICATION in bold gold capitals. The type is Montserrat with Alex Brush.
The text reads To Whom It May Concern, This is to certify that [Employee’s Full Name], with employee ID number [Employee ID], is currently employed at [Company Name] as a [Position]. It then says the person has been employed since a date on a full-time, part-time or contractual basis, and that as of this date they receive a gross monthly salary of an amount and are in good standing with the company. The last sentence says the certificate is issued on the employee’s request for their credit card application with [Bank Name]. The company name and address and an AURTHORIZED SIGNATURE line close the page.
Filling It In Carefully
| Bracket | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Employee’s Full Name | Exactly as on the identity document |
| Employee ID | The payroll or HR number |
| Position | The job title in the contract |
| Date of Employment | The first day of work |
| Full-Time, Part-Time or Contractual | Keep one, delete the others |
| Amount | Gross monthly salary, with currency |
| Bank Name | The issuer named in the application |
Good Standing: Say It Only If It Is True
The phrase “in good standing with the company” tells the bank that the employee is not under disciplinary action or notice. Include it only if it is accurate, and think about what it commits the company to say. If your company prefers not to comment on standing, delete the clause and keep the facts about employment and salary.
Spelling Fix
The signature label reads AURTHORIZED SIGNATURE. Correct it to AUTHORIZED SIGNATURE in the editor before you print. Banks check letters carefully, and small mistakes make them suspicious.
Verification Calls
Many banks phone the employer to confirm. Make sure the person who will answer knows the letter exists and can confirm the same details. Add a phone number or email in the address block if your records team prefers questions in writing.
Printing the Navy and Gold Version
Print on company letterhead, or add your logo. Use 90 to 100 gsm paper and blue ink for the signature. The navy and gold curves reach the edges, so use Fit to page.
