Why the Size Matters
CR80 is the standard size for plastic cards. It is the dimension that card printers, laminating pouches, wallet slots and card holders are built around. If your business already uses a plastic card printer for membership or loyalty cards, a certificate in this size runs through it without special setup. If you only use an office printer, the card is small enough to print eight at a time on a letter sheet and trim them to size.
A card this size also fits in a standard envelope with room to spare, and it fits in a wallet, which suits a gift the recipient will carry until they use it.
Designer’s Notes on the Layout
The top half of the card is a rich red gradient, darker at the top edge and lighter toward the middle, with outlined snowflakes in the corners. The words Gift and CERTIFICATE are white and centred, and the $50 badge pops out on the left edge in green numerals on a white, scalloped circle that looks like a sticker. Above the title are the fill-in lines, the gift line and the sender line at the top, and the date and number lines beneath them.
The lower half is white, with a thin red border. Its centrepiece is a Santa sleigh pulled by a line of red reindeer, surrounded by small red stars, with the words Merry Christmas in a green script across the bottom of the sleigh. A white Christmas tree built out of tiny stars stands on the right, rising from the red section above. The footer line carries a phone number and email address, which you replace with your own.
Preparing the Certificate
- Change the $50 to your value. Click the number and retype it, then check that it still sits comfortably inside the badge.
- Replace the placeholder phone and email with your contact details.
- Decide whether to leave the lines blank for handwriting or to type a name and date ahead of time.
- Download as PDF for the clearest print.
Getting a Clean Print on Card Stock
To get a professional result, print on card stock between 250 and 300 gsm and trim carefully with a guillotine. A rounded corner punch gives the card a finished, bought-in look. If you print on PVC with a card printer, set the file to the CR80 size, and use the PNG download. The red gradient prints richly, but test one card first, since gradients can show bands on some printers.
