A Certificate That Looks Like a Sports Broadcast
The first thing you notice here is energy. A black background cut by diagonal red lines, a red banner slashing across the middle and a gold winner seal at its end make the page look like the graphics of a live sports event. That makes it a natural fit for competitions, sales contests, hackathons, esports tournaments and any award that wants to feel bold and current.
Page Layout, Piece by Piece
The certificate is Letter size landscape, 11 x 8.5 inches. The page is split diagonally: the upper left and lower right corners are white with a grey halftone dot pattern and ghost figures, and the main field is black with a fine texture. Two thin red lines run along the diagonal edges, and a thin white frame sits inside the black.
At the top, CERTIFICATE is printed in white serif capitals with of excellence below it. A red ribbon banner with notched ends crosses the middle. On it, This certificate is proudly presented to leads to the name, MARTHA WILLIAMS, in gold capitals, and a paragraph in white. At the right end of the banner, a gold winner seal shows a number 1 in a laurel wreath. Below the banner, Date and Signature lines sit on the black field. At the bottom left, a white LOGO sits beside lines for Institute/Company Name Here, a street address and a phone and email.
The Footer Is a Useful Detail
Unlike most certificates, this one has a full contact block at the bottom: organisation name, address, phone and email. Fill it in with real details. It lets a recipient show the certificate to an employer or a college and be understood, and it gives the awarding body a quiet bit of branding.
Excellence Categories
| Category | Example paragraph |
|---|---|
| Sales | For exceeding the annual target by thirty percent in a challenging market |
| Competition | For first place among forty teams in the regional coding challenge |
| Training | For finishing the safety course with the highest score of the year |
| Sports | For outstanding leadership and performance throughout the season |
Signing on a Black Field
The Date and Signature lines are printed in white on black. Sign with a white or silver gel pen. Alternatively, print on a version where the signature area is light, by moving the lines onto the white corner. A neat signature in metallic ink looks sharp against the black.
Print Cautions
Large black fields use a lot of ink and can show banding on basic inkjets. Print a test first and use matte paper of 120 to 200 gsm. A laser printer or print shop gives the best black. Allow the sheet to dry before stacking.
Ideas for a Competition Series
If you run a series of events, such as monthly sales contests or a league of games, create a certificate for each month with the date in the paragraph. At the end of the year, the winner of each month can be honoured at a final event. The strong black and red look helps the series feel like a brand.
