Nonprofits run on volunteers, and the right flyer can turn a passer-by into someone who shows up every Saturday for years. This Volunteers Needed Flyer leads with warmth and community. At the top, a heart is built from hundreds of small dots in eight cheerful colours, a quiet symbol of many different people coming together. Beneath it, VOLUNTEERS in bold navy slab serif, NEEDED in coral, and the line Give a few hours. Change a lot of lives. Four white cards with colour-coded edges describe specific opportunities and when they happen, and the footer makes signing up easy with a web address, phone number and QR code. It suits food banks, shelters, tutoring programmes, senior centres, hospitals, animal rescues, community gardens, churches and event organisers.

A Heart Made of Many People

A single red heart is common on volunteer flyers. A heart made of many small, different-coloured dots carries more meaning: each dot is one person, and together they form something bigger. The dots are grouped as one object, so the heart moves and scales as a single piece. The rest of the page keeps things practical, because people decide whether to volunteer based on what the work is and when it happens.

Reading the Volunteer Flyer Top to Bottom

  • Organisation name: OPEN HANDS COMMUNITY FOOD BANK in small spaced grey capitals.
  • Dot heart: a mosaic of coral, peach, orange, green, teal, blue, violet and yellow dots.
  • Headline: VOLUNTEERS and NEEDED in Alfa Slab One, with an italic serif tagline.
  • Opportunity cards: Food Pantry (Saturdays, 9 am – 12 pm), Youth Tutoring (Tuesday and Thursday, 4 – 6 pm), Senior Visits (flexible, two hours a week) and Event Crew (one weekend a month), each with a coloured strip on its left edge.
  • Sign-up footer: a white band with a coral top line, Sign up in 2 minutes, the website and phone number, a line about who can volunteer, our small logo, and a QR code.

It is designed as a US Letter page (8.5 x 11 inches) in portrait.

Writing a Clear Volunteer Role Description

Vague requests (We need help!) rarely bring in volunteers. Specific roles do. Each card on the flyer is a mini role description; behind each one, your sign-up page should answer the same five questions:

QuestionExample for Food Pantry
What will I do?Sort donations, pack grocery boxes, greet clients
When?Saturdays, 9 am – 12 pm, at least twice a month
Where? Our warehouse at 55 Market Street, with free parking
Who can do it?Ages 14+ (under 18 with a parent), no experience needed
What happens first?A 30-minute orientation on your first morning

Answering these up front reduces no-shows and helps volunteers pick the role that fits their life.

Customizing Opportunities and Colours

  1. Organisation name: double-click the top line and type your organisation’s name.
  2. Headline and tagline: keep VOLUNTEERS NEEDED or try HELPERS WANTED or JOIN US; update the tagline to your mission.
  3. Opportunity cards: each card has a title and a schedule line. Change them to your roles, such as Dog Walkers, Reading Buddies, Garden Crew, or Meal Delivery Drivers.
  4. Card colours: the coloured strips can match programme colours or your brand palette.
  5. The heart: recolour the dots from the group’s colour swatches to your brand colours, or ungroup and recolour sections.
  6. Footer and QR code: add your sign-up link, phone number and eligibility notes, then select the QR code and paste your sign-up form link into its options panel.

What Keeps Volunteers Coming Back

Recruiting a volunteer is only the start; keeping them is what builds a strong programme. Volunteers stay when they feel useful, welcomed and appreciated. Give every new volunteer a clear first-day orientation and a named contact person. Show them the impact of their work, for example, the number of families fed that morning. Offer flexible commitments, since many people can give two hours but not a whole day. Group volunteering is popular with companies, schools, and faith communities, so mention that groups are welcome. Simple appreciation, like thank-you notes, volunteer spotlights on social media, and an annual celebration, costs little and makes a big difference.

Welcoming Teens, Families and Groups

Many people want to volunteer but assume they are too young, too busy, or need to come alone. The footer line, No experience needed · Ages 14+ with a parent · Groups welcome, answers all three. If your organisation can host families with younger children, youth service groups, school clubs or company teams, say so on the flyer and create specific group slots in your schedule. Teens often need documented service hours for school or scholarships, so mention that you sign off hours. Corporate groups appreciate a ready-made half-day project; a food bank sorting shift or a park clean-up is ideal. Making these options visible can double the number of volunteers who show up for a single event.

Spreading the Call for Volunteers

  • Libraries, coffee shops and grocery store community boards.
  • High schools and universities, where students often need service hours.
  • Places of worship and community centres.
  • Local businesses with corporate volunteer programmes.
  • Your newsletter, website and social media, using the PNG download.

Printing the Dot Heart

Print from the PDF download on white or light cream paper. The small dots print best on a laser printer or at a print shop, where colours stay crisp. The flyer uses a light background, so it is economical to print in quantity for community noticeboards and event tables.

Volunteer Coordinator Questions

Can I use it to recruit board members?

Yes. Change the cards to board roles, such as Treasurer or Fundraising Chair, with the time commitment, and update the headline to JOIN OUR BOARD.

Why is the heart made of separate dots?

It is a mosaic of small circles grouped. It looks lively in print and lets you pull out your brand colours from the swatches.

Can I add photos of volunteers?

Add an image from the editor and place it between the tagline and the cards, reducing the heart’s size if needed.

Open the template, list your volunteer opportunities with real times, connect the QR code to your sign-up form, and watch your community show up.
