Birthday yard signs turn a birthday into a neighbourhood event. Drivers honk, neighbours wave, friends stop by for photos, and the birthday child (or adult) feels celebrated from the moment they step outside. They have become especially popular for drive-by birthday parades, and they have stayed popular because they are simply fun. This Birthday Yard Sign Template is designed to make people smile from the street: rainbow bunting, a big round photo in a sunshine frame, HONK! in bold pink letters, and a starburst with the new age.
Party Details, Big and Bright
The sign is 24 x 18 inches in landscape, the standard size for corrugated plastic yard signs. The background is a soft pink. A string of triangular bunting flags in pink, yellow, teal, purple, and orange swoops across the top. On the left, a large circular photo slot is surrounded by a white ring and a yellow sunburst edge, like a bright badge.
On the right, HONK! is written in chunky pink Luckiest Guy letters with a playful purple shadow, followed by IT’S MY BIRTHDAY in teal. The name Liam appears in purple Pacifico script, then IS TURNING, and a yellow starburst shows the age, 7, in large pink numerals. A cluster of balloons floats on the right. A teal band at the bottom, trimmed with a mini row of bunting, reads Drive by & honk · Saturday, May 9 in white, with our logo on the right.
Adding the Birthday Photo
Click the circular photo and choose Replace Image. The circle keeps its size and sunburst frame, so any photo fits. Close-up photos with the face in the centre work best in a round frame: a school photo, a big smile at the beach, or a baby photo for a milestone birthday. Use a high-resolution original from your phone so the photo stays sharp at yard-sign size.

Changing the Name, Age and Date
- Click the name and type the birthday person’s name. Pacifico script suits short names; for long names, reduce the size slightly.
- Click the number in the starburst and change the age. Two-digit ages fit comfortably.
- Edit the bottom band with the date, or with Party at 2 PM, or Happy birthday from Mom & Dad.
- Recolour the pink background and bunting to a favourite colour, or to a party theme such as dinosaurs, unicorns or sports team colours.
- The balloon cluster is an editable vector: recolour it from its colour swatches, or move it closer to the photo.
Planning a Drive-By Birthday Parade
A drive-by parade is a joyful way to celebrate with lots of people without a big party. Pick a time and send it to friends and family. Put the yard sign where the birthday person will sit or stand, with the photo facing the road. Ask drivers to decorate cars with balloons or signs and to go slowly past the house, honking and waving. Have a table with small treats or party favours that can be handed through car windows. The yard sign then becomes the centrepiece of the day’s photos.
Printing and Keeping the Sign
Download the PDF and order a 24 x 18 inch corrugated plastic sign with an H-stake from a local print shop; many offer same-day or next-day service. Double-sided printing lets drivers from both directions see the sign. For a smaller version inside or on a door, print it on US Letter at fit-to-page size. Many families keep birthday signs as souvenirs, and a collection of yearly signs with a new photo each year makes a lovely record of a child growing up.
Surprise Signs for Friends and Coworkers
Birthday yard signs are a popular surprise too. Friends sneak a sign onto a lawn overnight, or coworkers set one up at a colleague’s desk. For a surprise, choose a funny photo and a playful headline, such as HONK! SHE’S 40 AND FABULOUS. Just make sure the birthday person will enjoy the attention, and ask the homeowner’s permission if the lawn is not your own.
Keeping the Surprise Safe
If the sign is a surprise, plan the reveal. Order the print a few days ahead and have it delivered to a friend’s house or collected from the shop. Set it up after the birthday person is asleep, or while they are out, and make sure the stake is pushed in firmly so wind cannot flatten it overnight. Put a small light nearby if the house is on a dark street, so early-morning drivers can see it too. Then take a photo when the birthday person first sees it; that reaction is often the best picture of the whole day.
After the celebration, wipe the sign clean and store it flat. With a new photo and number next year, you can reuse the same design and start a family tradition.
Birthday Sign Questions
Can I remove the photo?
Yes. Delete the photo, ring, and sunburst, and enlarge the headline and starburst to fill the space.
Can I use it for twins?
Change the name to both names and use a photo of both children, or make two signs with separate photos.
Will it work as a party backdrop?
Absolutely. Print it on foam board and prop it on an easel near the cake table.
Is it safe to show a child’s full name?
Many parents use only a first name on public lawn signs for privacy, and leave off the school name. The template shows just a first name for that reason.
Let the Honking Begin
Add a favourite photo, the name, and the new age, and put the sign out the night before. A bright, joyful sign turns an ordinary street into a birthday celebration from the moment the sun comes up.
