Missing a tax deadline costs money in penalties and interest, and it is one of the most avoidable mistakes in running a business. This calendar puts the key federal dates for 2027 on one page. Start with the checklist below, read the questions in the middle, and finish with the routine that keeps you on time all year.
Tax Calendar Setup Checklist
- Confirm your business structure: sole proprietorship, partnership, S corporation, or C corporation.
- Check whether you need to pay estimated tax each quarter.
- Circle every deadline that applies to you on the year calendar.
- Delete the rows in the deadline table that do not apply, and add state or local dates.
- Write your accountant’s name and contact details on the page.
- Set reminders a week before each date in your phone or diary.
The Manila Folder Design
The page is US Letter portrait on a soft paper-white background. The header is a manila file folder in warm yellow, with four tabs along its top edge labelled Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4, one for each tax quarter. Inside the folder, Tax Deadline Calendar 2027 is set in dark teal IBM Plex Sans, with SMALL BUSINESS & SELF-EMPLOYED · UNITED STATES in brown capitals and Federal dates for the 2027 calendar year in italics. A calculator sits on the right of the folder. At the bottom of the page, a matching yellow folder strip with tabs holds the logo, so the page opens and closes like a file.
Between them is the full year of 2027, with dark teal month bars, and a table of key federal deadlines with columns for Date, Deadline, and Who it affects.
Key Federal Tax Dates for 2027
| Date | Deadline | Who it affects |

| Feb 1 | W-2 and 1099-NEC forms (January 31 is a Sunday) | Employers, businesses |
| Mar 15 | S corporation and partnership returns | S corporations, partnerships |
| Apr 15 | Individual and C corporation returns; Q1 estimated tax | Most taxpayers |
| Jun 15 | Q2 estimated tax payment | Self-employed, freelancers |
| Sep 15 | Q3 estimated tax; extended S corporation and partnership returns | Self-employed, S corporations |
| Oct 15 | Extended individual and C corporation returns | Filers with extensions |
| Mid-January 2028 | Q4 2027 estimated tax payment | Self-employed, freelancers |
These are the main dates for calendar-year filers. A short note on the page reminds you that weekend and holiday rules can move a date, and that you should check IRS.gov, your state, and your accountant before filing. The IRS can also change dates, for example after natural disasters.
Questions Small Business Owners Ask
Do I need to pay estimated tax?
Generally, if you are self-employed and expect to owe a significant amount of tax for the year, you are expected to pay during the year in four instalments rather than all at once in April. The quarterly dates in the table show when. Your accountant can tell you how much to pay each time.
Why are the quarters uneven?
Estimated tax quarters are not equal three-month blocks. The second payment covers only two months, which is why June 15 comes just two months after April 15, while the gap from September to January is four months. Mark them on the calendar rather than assuming every three months.
What if my business uses a fiscal year?
Businesses with a fiscal year that does not end on December 31 have different return dates, usually tied to the end of their year. Edit the table to show your dates, and use the year calendar to circle them.
What about state and local taxes?
Many states have their own income, sales, and payroll tax deadlines, some monthly. Add them as rows in the table, using the Table options to insert as many as you need.
A Monthly Tax Routine
- At the start of each month, check the calendar for deadlines in the next 60 days.
- Reconcile your bank accounts and update your bookkeeping.
- Set aside a percentage of income for tax in a separate account.
- Collect receipts and invoices in one folder, digital or paper.
- Two weeks before each deadline, send your accountant what they need.
- After paying, write the confirmation number on the back of the page.
Editing the Tax Calendar
The year calendar is the editor’s Calendar object in Full Year style; open Calendar Options to change the year, start weeks on Monday, or recolour it. The deadline table is the editor’s Table object, so every cell can be edited, and rows or columns can be added. The folder shapes can be recoloured to your brand, and the calculator is an editable vector illustration with its own colour swatches. Fonts are IBM Plex Sans and Montserrat, both Google Fonts.
What Happens If a Deadline Is Missed?
Late filing and late payment can each bring penalties, and interest usually runs on unpaid tax from the original due date. The longer the delay, the higher the cost. If you know you cannot pay in full, it is generally better to file on time and pay what you can, then speak to the IRS or your accountant about payment options, than to miss the filing deadline as well. If you need more time to prepare a return, an extension request filed by the original deadline can give you more time to file, though usually not more time to pay. Write any extension deadlines on the calendar as soon as you request them, so the new date gets the same attention as the original one.
For Bookkeepers and Accountants
Accounting firms can brand the calendar with their logo and contact details and send it to clients in December as a useful new-year gift. It reminds clients of the dates and keeps your firm’s name in front of them all year.
Filing the Page Where You Will See It
Print a copy for the office wall and another for the front of your tax folder. Highlight your own deadlines in bright colours and cross them off as they are met.
Eight key dates, one page, and no surprise penalties. File on time, every time.
