Pyjamas on, popcorn ready, flashlights under the covers. A Slumber Party is one of the great childhood rites of passage: a night of giggling, movies, midnight snacks, and very little actual sleep. For parents, it is also a night that needs clear information. This invitation is playful enough for the kids and practical enough for the grown-ups.

Five Sleepy Friends Under a Starry Sky

The 5 x 7 inch card is a lavender night sky dotted with little white stars, with a pale yellow crescent moon in the upper right. PJs on, lights out (eventually) runs across in small yellow capitals, a gentle joke every parent will appreciate. Slumber is set in big rounded white Comfortaa letters, with Party in pink Caveat handwriting below, and for Ava’s 10th birthday in white italic.

The details sit in the middle of the card: the date in yellow, drop-off and pick-up times, the family address, a two-line packing reminder, and a yellow RSVP line. Along the bottom, five children are tucked into sleeping bags in pink, yellow, mint, sky blue and lilac, side by side. Each has a white pillow, a little sleepy face with closed eyes and a different hair colour, and the zips run down the side of each bag. A few drowsy Z’s float above them. The OTO logo sits in white in the top-left corner of the sky.

What Parents Need to Know

A sleepover invitation has to answer more practical questions than most party cards. The sample includes the key details, and this table lists everything worth confirming.

DetailSample on the cardWhy parents need it
Drop-off timeFriday, 6 PMPlan around dinner and work
Pick-up timeSaturday, 10 AMSo nobody is left waiting
Address27 Lullaby LaneFor drop-off and emergencies
What to bringSleeping bag, pillow, pyjamasSo children have what they need
Food planPizza, movies, pancakesHelps with allergies and preferences
Host contactRSVP to LinhFor questions and late-night calls

When parents RSVP, ask about allergies, medications, bedtime fears and an emergency contact number. Keep a list on the fridge for the night.

The Packing List for Guests

Send this list with the invitation so nobody arrives without a toothbrush:

  • Sleeping bag or blanket, and a pillow
  • Pyjamas and a change of clothes for the morning
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • A favourite cuddly toy (no judgement at any age)
  • A flashlight or torch
  • Any medication, with instructions for the host
  • Slippers or warm socks

A Sleepover Schedule That Actually Ends in Sleep

  1. 6:00 PM Arrivals, bags dropped, sleeping bags laid out.
  2. 6:30 PM Pizza dinner, possibly make-your-own.
  3. 7:30 PM Activity: crafts, nail painting, a scavenger hunt, or a dance-off.
  4. 8:30 PM Birthday cake and presents.
  5. 9:00 PM Pyjamas, teeth, then a movie with popcorn in sleeping bags.
  6. 10:30 PM Lights out (officially). Whispering is inevitable.
  7. 8:00 AM Pancake breakfast.
  8. 10:00 AM Pick-up, with sleepy goodbyes.

Adjust the times for younger children, who may need lights out by 9:30. For first-time sleepovers, some parents offer a late-over instead: all the fun, with pick-up at bedtime.

Customising the Sleeping Bags and Text

All the text is editable with a double-click: name and age, date, times, address, packing note, and RSVP. The sleeping bag row is one grouped object containing all five children; recolour the bags to match the birthday child’s favourite colours, or ungroup the row to change hair colours and skin tones so the children look like your guests. You can also remove a child or two if the party is smaller.

The star field is one group, and the moon is two simple circles, so you can recolour the sky to navy or dusty pink. Fonts are Comfortaa, Caveat and Montserrat, all in the editor’s list.

Themes to Make It Extra Special

  • Spa night: face masks, nail painting and cucumber water.
  • Movie marathon: a printed cinema ticket for each film and a popcorn bar.
  • Camp-in: indoor tents, flashlights and stories.
  • Glow party: glow sticks, glow bracelets and a dance party in the dark.
  • Baking night: decorate cupcakes or cookies before bed.

Tips for a Calm Night (for the Host Parents)

Hosting a sleepover is part party and part night shift. A few simple habits help. Set up the sleeping area before guests arrive, so every child has a spot and nobody argues over the best place by the television. Lay out a small basket of spare toothbrushes, hair ties, and a nightlight for anyone who forgets theirs or feels nervous in the dark. Agree with the children on one quiet time rule, such as whispers only after lights out, and stick to it with a smile. Keep a list of every parent’s phone number by your bed. In the morning, a big stack of pancakes and some cartoons make for a gentle wake-up, and tired guests are much happier when the pick-up time arrives on schedule.

Sending Invitations to Parents

For a school-friend sleepover, a printed invitation in a bag or a digital invite sent directly to parents both work. Download a PDF to print on bright white card, or a PNG or JPG to send by message. Sending it to parents rather than children helps make sure the times and details reach the people who need them.

Slumber Party Questions

How many friends should I invite?

Four to six children is a comfortable number for most homes and for the host parents.

What age is right for a first sleepover?

Many children are ready around seven or eight, but it varies. A late-over is a good first step.

What if a child wants to go home in the night?

It happens. Make sure you have every parent’s phone number, and reassure them it is fine to call.

Can this card be used for a boys’ sleepover or a mixed group?

Absolutely. Change the colours and the wording, and it suits any group of friends.

Type the birthday child’s name and the drop-off times, and send out the invitation. Lights out at 10:30. Eventually.
