Somebody always flips the board. Somebody else insists the rules say otherwise. And by midnight, everyone is arguing about one more round. If that sounds like your kind of evening, this game night invitation was made for you. It looks like a board game, it reads like a dare, and it tells your friends exactly when to show up with their best poker face.

The Track Around the Edge

The whole card is framed by a board-game track. Square spaces in red, sunflower yellow, teal, and bright blue run around all four edges, with a GO square in the top-left corner and two little pawns parked on the track. Inside the track is a deep navy board with a dashed cream line, like the inner edge of a real game board.

On the left, a yellow FRIDAY NIGHT tag sits above the words GAME and NIGHT, stacked in chunky Luckiest Guy lettering, cream and yellow with a red drop shadow. A short line promises Board games, card games, snacks, and serious bragging rights, followed by the date, the host’s address, and an RSVP line in yellow. On the right, a pair of red-dotted dice and a fanned hand of playing cards fill the space, with the OTO logo tucked beneath them.

The card is landscape, 7 x 5 inches, which is perfect for a postcard or for sharing as an image in a group chat.

Picking the Games: A Lineup by Group Size

The best game nights match the games to the number of people. Use this as a starting point, then write your plan on the card if you want guests to brush up on the rules.

GuestsGame styleWhy it works
3 to 4Strategy board gamesEveryone can see the board and plan ahead
4 to 6Card games and dice gamesFast rounds, easy to teach
6 to 10Word, drawing and guessing gamesTeams keep everyone involved
10 or moreParty games and triviaWorks with a crowd and spare players can watch
Mixed agesClassic family gamesKids and grandparents already know the rules

Two or three games are plenty for one evening. Start with something quick to warm people up, play the main event when everyone has arrived, and finish with a light party game when energy dips.

Making the Card Say Your Night

Every line of text is editable. Double-click to change FRIDAY NIGHT to SATURDAY NIGHT or MONTHLY GAME NIGHT, and update the date, address, and RSVP. You might also replace the tagline with a playful house rule:

  • Loser does the dishes.
  • Bring your favourite game and a snack to share.
  • No phones at the table, unless it is a dice app.
  • Grudges from last month will be settled.

The track is a single grouped object, so you can select the whole border at once and recolour or move it. The dice and the cards are editable vectors: select one to see its colour swatches, or ungroup it to change individual pips and suits. Want to swap the colours to match a favourite game box? Recolour the track squares and the title shadow, and the card instantly feels like a different game.

Snacks That Will Not Ruin the Cards

Game night food should be easy to eat with one hand and not leave greasy fingerprints on the pieces. Popcorn, pretzels, cut vegetables, sliders, mini pizzas, and cookies all work. Keep drinks on a side table rather than next to the board, and put out napkins everywhere. A bowl of individually wrapped chocolates doubles as poker chips if you need them.

Running a Smooth Night

Set up the first game before anyone arrives so you can start while people are still taking off their coats. Choose one person to teach each game; that is often the person who brought it. Keep a notepad for scores, because the bragging rights promised on the card are part of the fun. If you host monthly, a running leaderboard on the fridge builds a friendly rivalry, and the winner can choose next month’s game.

Turning It into a Monthly Game Night Club

Many groups discover that one game night is never enough. If yours becomes a regular thing, the invitation can grow with it. Change FRIDAY NIGHT to First Friday of Every Month and use the tagline for a rotating theme: a cooperative-games month, a retro-classics month, a two-player tournament month, or a bring a game nobody has played month. Rotate the host so no one living room carries the whole load, and let each host pick the snacks. Keep a simple sign-up for who is bringing which game so you do not end up with three copies of the same box. A shared photo album of winners holding a paper crown is a cheap and surprisingly motivating trophy. Some clubs even keep a notebook of house rules that have been argued over, so the same debate never has to happen twice.

Print It or Text It

Download the invitation as a PNG or JPG to send in a group chat, or as a PDF to print. Printed at 7 x 5 inches on bright white card, the coloured track pops beautifully. You could also print a stack and leave one in each game box you lend out, so friends always know when the next game night is.

Game Night Questions

How long should a game night last?

Three to four hours is typical. Put an end time on the card if it is a weeknight, so no one is surprised when the last round is called.

Can this card work for a family game night?

Absolutely. The bright colours suit kids, and you can change the wording to Family Game Night with a Sunday afternoon time.

What if someone does not know the rules?

Mention the games on the invitation so people can watch a quick rules video beforehand, or choose games that take under five minutes to explain.

Roll the dice: type your date and address, pick your lineup, and send the card out. Your friends will be at the table before you have finished shuffling.
