Children love giving cards, especially ones they helped make. This Kids’ Thanksgiving Card does half the work, with a bright, funny front and an inside page that invites children to write and draw their own thank-you. It is perfect for grandparents, teachers, a favourite aunt or the neighbour who always waves.
A Card Kids Finish Themselves
The front is ready to go: a big cartoon turkey and a silly greeting. The inside is deliberately unfinished. It asks I’m thankful for you because… and gives four dotted writing lines, then a large dashed box that says Draw us together! and a Love, ______ line at the bottom. The child fills in the words, draws a picture, and signs their name, so every card is one of a kind.
That mix suits a wide range of ages:
- Ages 3 to 5: a grown-up writes the words the child says, and the child draws the picture.
- Ages 6 to 8: children write a short sentence with a little spelling help and draw the family.
- Ages 9 and up: children write their own message and might draw a whole Thanksgiving scene.
What the Front Looks Like
The card is 5 x 7 inches, portrait. The front has a sunny yellow background covered in wide diagonal stripes of a slightly deeper yellow, like a birthday gift wrap. In the middle sits a large white panel with rounded corners and a soft shadow. A cartoon turkey stands in the upper part of the panel: rich brown and red tail feathers fanned out behind it, big googly eyes, a yellow beak, a red wattle, orange feet, and a little black pilgrim hat with a gold buckle perched on its head.
Below the turkey, Gobble in orange and Gobble! in dark brown are stacked in Luckiest Guy, a chunky cartoon font that looks like a comic book. Under them, Happy Thanksgiving! is written in Patrick Hand, a friendly handwriting font, followed by a small grey line: made with love by Leo, age 6. The brand mark sits small near the bottom of the white panel.
What the Inside Looks Like
The inside page is white with a yellow strip across the top and the bottom, matching the front. The prompt I’m thankful for you because… is written in orange handwriting style at the top. Four grey dashed lines give plenty of space for little hands. The drawing box below has rounded corners and a dashed teal border, with Draw us together! in teal at the top and a tiny orange pumpkin in the lower right corner. At the very bottom, Love, ______ waits for a signature.
Personalising Before You Print
The only line most parents change is made with love by Leo, age 6. Click it and type your child’s name and age; grandparents treasure that detail years later. You can also change the prompt inside to something different, for example, My favourite thing about you is… for a grandparent, or Thank you for teaching me… for a teacher.
If you have several children, download the card once for each child with their name on the front. Each child gets their own card to finish.
Craft Tips for a Kids’ Card Afternoon
- Print on white card stock so crayons, markers, and stickers all work.
- Give children a small cup of brown, orange, red and yellow crayons to match the turkey.
- Offer stickers, glitter glue, or real pressed leaves to glue into the drawing box.
- Let them add feathers to the turkey with felt-tip pens before folding.
- Put a towel down if glitter is involved. You know why.
Printing and Folding the Gobble Card
Download the PDF. For a folded card, print the two pages side by side on Letter paper in landscape, with the front on the right half and the inside on the left. Fold in half along the middle so the turkey is on the front. For a flat card, print the front and the inside on the two sides of one 5 x 7 sheet.
Card stock of 65 to 80 lb cover is a good weight for children: firm enough to stand up, easy to fold, and soft enough for crayons. A standard A7 envelope fits the finished card; children love decorating the envelope too.
Making Gobble Cards with a Whole Class
Teachers can print a class set and have children make cards for families, school staff or residents of a local care home. The writing lines and drawing box keep the activity structured, while the big turkey on the front keeps everyone excited. Edit the name line to Made by Room 12 for a class card.
Changing Colours and the Turkey
The yellow stripes are one grouped object; recolour them to pale orange or soft green in a click. The turkey is editable vector art with its own colour swatches. You can make its feathers more colourful, or swap the turkey for another character from the editor’s Elements panel if your child prefers a pumpkin or a pie.
Who Kids Can Thank with This Card
Ask your child to think beyond the family. The bus driver, the lunch staff, a coach, a librarian, the neighbour who shovels the snow, or a nurse at the doctor’s office all make a child’s year better, and a hand-finished card is a lovely surprise for them. Making two or three cards for people outside the family is a gentle way to teach children that gratitude includes everyone who helps.
Kids Card Questions
Can the card be sent by email?
Yes. After your child fills it in, take a photo or scan it, and send it to grandparents who live far away.
Is the inside too big for young children?
Small children often only fill the drawing box, which is perfect. A grown-up can write one line on the writing lines for them.
Can I print it in black and white?
It prints fine in grey, and children can colour the turkey themselves, which many enjoy even more.
A card made by small hands is a gift grown-ups keep for decades. Print one, set out the crayons, and let your little one say thank you in their own words.
