The Turkey Trot is one of America’s most popular running traditions: thousands of communities hold a fun run or 5K on Thanksgiving morning, and many families run it together before the big meal. Finishers love a certificate, especially children and first-time runners. This Turkey Trot Certificate records the achievement with a finish time, a place, and a little holiday humour.
What Race Organisers Need From a Finisher Certificate
- the event name and year, so the certificate becomes a keepsake;
- the runner’s name, large and clear;
- the distance completed;
- the finish time and, optionally, the place and bib number;
- a signature from the race director or organiser.

The Race Certificate Design
The certificate is 11 x 8.5 inches, landscape, on a warm cream page. Filling In Results for Many Runners
Large events may have hundreds of finishers, so plan how you will produce certificates:
- Blank certificates: clear the name and result boxes, print a stack, and hand-write names and times at the finish line.
- Typed certificates: after the race, type each runner’s name and results from your timing sheet and download a certificate for each.
- Participation version: delete the time and place boxes and give everyone the same certificate with their name, ideal for kids’ runs and family walks.
For typed certificates, a volunteer can produce one every minute or so by changing three fields and downloading, which is manageable for a small community race.

Customising the Track and Colours
The track, lane lines and finish flag are one grouped object; select it to change the track colour to blue, green or your club colour. The cartoon turkey is an editable vector with colour swatches, or you can replace it with your race logo. The stopwatch icon is tinted rust and can be recoloured to match. Change the event name, distance, and year in the top line to suit your race; for a 10K or a 1-mile kids’ run, update the citation as well.
Printing and Presenting Certificates
Download the PDF and print in landscape on a sturdy card stock, around 80 to 110 lb cover. Bright white or cream works best. For a big event, print a stack the night before and set up a certificate table near the finish line with pens. For a family race, present the certificates at the Thanksgiving table before dinner; children especially love the moment.
Turkey Trot Traditions Worth Celebrating
Turkey Trots range from huge city races with thousands of runners to a few neighbours jogging around the block. Many raise money for food banks and local charities, and a lot of participants run in costume, from turkey hats to full pilgrim outfits. Consider adding special certificates for Best Costume,Youngest Finisher, or Fastest Family by changing the title and citation.
Setting Up a Certificate Table at the Finish
A certificate table near the finish line adds a festive moment to the end of the race. Set out pre-printed blank certificates, fine marker pens, and a laptop or printed results sheet. Volunteers write in each runner’s name and time as they collect their water and snack. Clip the certificates to a string with pegs so runners can find their own, or hand them over with a high five. Families often take their photos right there, certificate in hand.

Races depend on volunteers and sponsors. Use the same template to thank them: change the title to Certificate of Thanks, the citation to for helping make the Riverton Turkey Trot possible, and remove the result boxes. A matching certificate for every helper is a simple way to make them feel part of the event and keep them coming back next year.
Keeping Race Results Accurate
Double-check every name and time against your official results before printing, especially for typed certificates. A quick second look from another volunteer catches most mistakes and saves reprints.
Turkey Trot Certificate Questions
Can I add our race logo and sponsors?
Replace the turkey with your logo, and add sponsor logos in the empty cream space above the track.
Can I use it for other holiday runs?
Yes. Change the title line for a Jingle Bell Run or a New Year’s Day race, and swap the turkey for seasonal artwork.
Is there room for a medal photo?
Add a small circle from the Elements panel to the left of the result boxes and use Replace Image to drop in a finish-line photo.
