Teachers Move Between Schools More Than You Think
Teachers change posts for many reasons: a new city, a promotion, a different school type, a year abroad. Each move needs paperwork. Hiring committees want confirmation of previous employment, ministries and licensing boards want proof of teaching experience, and international schools check every detail. A teacher’s certificate of employment is the standard answer. This version is written for schools, colleges and training institutions and covers the particulars that matter in education.
A Pale Blue Page for Teachers
The page is Letter size portrait, 8.5 x 11 inches. A pale blue panel fills most of the page, with a white block cut into the bottom centre for the signature. The title CERTIFICATE OF EMPLOYMENT FOR TEACHING STAFF is set in navy capitals with an underline, across two lines. A Date line sits at the top left, and the typefaces are Tinos for headings and Nunito for the list.
The letter reads To Whom It May Concern, This is to formally certify that [Teacher’s Full Name], [Nationality], has been employed as a member of the teaching staff at [School/Institution Name]. A list of details follows: Position (for example English Teacher or Math Instructor), Department/Grade Level, Employment Type, Employment Duration, Work Hours and Salary. Two paragraphs describe the teacher as dedicated and skilled, fostering a positive learning environment and delivering high quality instruction, with a lasting impact on the school and the wider community. A closing sentence says it is issued at the teacher’s request, and the signature block follows.
Education Details Worth Adding
| Detail | Where to put it |
|---|---|
| Subjects taught | In the Position line, such as Secondary Mathematics Teacher |
| Year groups or grades | In the Department/Grade Level line |
| Teaching licence number | As an extra bullet if the reader needs it |
| Additional roles | In the paragraph, for example head of year or exam coordinator |
| Term dates | In the duration line, for part year contracts |
The Descriptive Paragraphs
The wording about inspiring students is flattering and general. Many schools keep it. If you prefer a plain letter, delete one paragraph and keep the facts. If you want a more specific one, replace the sentence with something real, for example “led the school’s debate team to the regional final in two consecutive years.”
Hours and Contracts in Education
Teaching contracts can be confusing: full time with some days at home, part time by percentage, or term time only. State the actual terms. For example, “0.8 full-time equivalent, 32 hours per week during term time.” Clear facts prevent questions later.
Who Signs
A head teacher, principal, deputy or HR officer usually signs. Add the school seal or stamp where customary. If the letter is for use abroad, ask whether it must be signed by the head of the institution or legalised.
Printing the Blue Panel
The blue panel prints best on a good quality setting. Use 90 to 100 gsm paper, or the school’s letterhead. Sign in ink above the line.
The same layout for a clinical role is available as the health care workers certificate. More are in employment certificates.
