Beauty magazines sell a feeling: fresh skin, soft light and a face you can’t look away from. This beauty magazine cover template is built around one big portrait with a giant blush masthead, italic cover lines, a round “Skincare Issue” badge and a row of lipstick swatches. It suits beauty salons and skincare brands, makeup artists building a portfolio, beauty bloggers, cosmetology students and anyone who wants a glamorous cover photo of themselves or a friend.

Blush Type Over a Full-Page Portrait

The template is US Letter, 8.5 x 11 inches, portrait. The portrait photo fills the entire page, and the elements are arranged around the face:

  • The masthead: GLOW in enormous blush-pink Abril Fatface letters across the top, with a soft shadow that helps it read on light or dark photos. “BEAUTY · SKIN · WELLNESS” sits above it on the left, and the date and price on the right.
  • A translucent rose column on the right holds three cover lines, each a bold italic Cormorant Garamond headline over a small capitals subline: “Glass skin in 10 minutes”, “SPF myths, busted” and “25 cult buys under $20”.
  • The Skincare Issue badge: a large dusty-rose circle at the lower left with a fine inner ring, reading “THE Skincare ISSUE”.
  • Lipstick swatches: four diagonal swipes in Ruby, Rosé, Nude and Berry along the bottom right, each labelled.
  • A barcode and our logo along the foot.

Lighting a Beauty Cover Photo at Home

Professional beauty covers use soft, even light that flatters skin. You can get close with simple equipment. Here is a setup that works in any room with a window:

  1. Face a large window on an overcast day, or with a thin white curtain diffusing direct sun.
  2. Add a reflector below the face. A white card, foam board or even a white pillowcase held at chest height bounces light into the eyes and under the chin, the classic “clamshell” beauty look.
  3. Keep the background simple, a plain wall in a soft colour. The full-page photo will show all of it.
  4. Frame tightly: head and shoulders, with the face in the upper-middle of the frame and space at the top for the masthead.
  5. Shoot in portrait orientation at the highest resolution your camera allows.
  6. Keep retouching light. Real skin texture looks modern; heavy smoothing looks dated.

Styling GLOW for a Salon or Brand

  • The portrait: click the photo and choose Replace Image. The photo fills the page without stretching. Position the face in the centre so the masthead sits on the forehead and hair, as on real beauty covers.
  • The masthead: double-click “GLOW”. Short words (up to five letters) keep the dramatic scale: BLUSH, DEWY, VELVET or your salon’s name.
  • Cover lines: each headline and subline is editable. Rewrite them for your services or products: “The 3-step facial our clients love”, “New in: vegan lip tints”.
  • The badge: change “Skincare” to “Bridal Beauty”, “Summer” or “Men’s Grooming”.
  • Swatches: the four swipes are one group. Recolour each to your own shades and edit the labels underneath.
  • Column colour: adjust the rose column’s colour or opacity to suit your photo.

Who Uses a Beauty Magazine Cover

  • Salons and spas promoting a new treatment or a seasonal offer.
  • Skincare and cosmetics brands making a launch visual or catalogue cover.
  • Makeup artists presenting their best looks in a portfolio.
  • Beauty schools for student projects and graduation showcases.
  • Birthday and bridal surprises: a glam shoot turned into a magazine cover.

Satin Stock for Natural Skin Tones

Beauty covers look best on smooth, bright paper. Download the PDF and print on satin or silk cover stock (100 lb). It keeps skin tones natural and avoids the harsh shine of high gloss. Ask the print shop for full bleed so the portrait fills the page. For Instagram, download a PNG. Portrait covers work well as posts and as story backgrounds.

Beauty Cover Lines That Feel Trustworthy

Beauty readers are savvy, and overblown promises put them off. The most effective cover lines are specific, practical and a little aspirational. “Glass skin in 10 minutes” promises a result and a time. “SPF myths, busted” promises clarity. “25 cult buys under $20” promises value. When you write for a salon or brand, name real treatments and real prices, and avoid medical claims (words like “cure” or “anti-ageing miracle”), which can also run into advertising rules.

The template pairs each headline with a small capitals subline. Use the subline to add credibility: “THE ROUTINE, STEP BY STEP”, “WHAT DERMATOLOGISTS SAY”, “EDITORS’ SHOPPING LIST”. Readers see the headline, then the subline reassures them it’s worth reading. Three stories is plenty; beauty covers rely on the portrait, so leave the face and the space around it free.

Building a Salon Menu Behind the Cover

Salons can turn this cover into a small service brochure. Use Add Page to create inside pages for the treatment menu, prices, before-and-after photos and a booking QR code. With the GLOW cover on the front, the brochure feels like a luxury magazine rather than a price list, which suits spas, lash studios, nail bars and skincare clinics.

Beauty Cover FAQs

Will the pink masthead show on a pale photo?

The masthead has a soft shadow for contrast. For very light photos, recolour it a deeper rose or wine so it stands out.

Can I move the cover-line column to the left?

Yes. Select the column and its text and drag them left. Place it on the side of the photo with the plainest background.

Can I use this for a men’s grooming magazine?

Absolutely. Recolour to charcoal and copper, change the masthead to something like “GROOMED”, and replace the lipstick swatches with product shots.

Are the swatch colours accurate to real lipsticks?

They’re illustrative. If you’re promoting real products, match each swipe to the product’s colour code.

Let Your Cover Glow

Choose your best portrait, write cover lines that sound like you, and print a cover that looks straight off the beauty shelf. For a salon, a brand or a birthday, it’s a beautiful way to put the spotlight on a face.
