Questions Home Decor Sellers Ask About Gift Certificates
Will a certificate suit made-to-order work?
Yes. The wording at the bottom, “Redeemable for products and services offered by [Company Name] only,” is open enough to cover furniture, custom cushions, curtains, paint consultations and design time. Replace the bracket with your studio’s name.
What does the card look like?
It is 3.375 x 2.125 inches in landscape, the size of a credit card. The background is a warm terracotta. In the top right corner a blush pink panel shows a geometric pattern of white diamonds, a row of tassels and a decorative rug-like border. Illustrated houseplants in pink and a candle on a shelf stand along the bottom, giving the card a cosy, interior look.
The headline is stacked: Custom in a cream script, HOME DECOR in large white capitals, and a pink ribbon below with GIFT CERTIFICATE.
What do I fill in?
Three lines sit under the heading: Recipient Name, Gift Certificate Value (which starts with a dollar sign), and Certificate Code. Keep a record of every code in your order system, so that redeeming it is simple.
Can I change the heading?
Yes. Custom and HOME DECOR are text. Retype them to Interior Design, Handmade Rugs, Furniture or Lighting. The ribbon with GIFT CERTIFICATE stays the same.
Which colours can I change?
The text can be recoloured freely. The terracotta and pink illustration are pictures, so for a different palette you would swap the background artwork. If you prefer to keep the look and only change the brand, the heading and the thank-you line will do most of the work.
Who gives these?
Buyers who want to give a gift to someone who is moving house, newlyweds setting up a first home, hosts who love their interiors, or colleagues retiring to a new place. For those gifts a certificate is better than a guess at taste.
How should I print it?
Use warm white or kraft card stock in the 250 to 300 gsm range. The solid terracotta covers most of the card, so test one copy for evenness. Trim along the edge with a ruler. A twine bow or a small paint swatch clipped to the corner adds charm.
What else should I add?
If you offer free consultations or delivery, say so in the space near the bottom, and add an expiry date. If you also sell online, include your website address in the closing sentence.
Showrooms, Studios and Online Shops
A showroom can keep a small stack of these certificates beside the till, where visitors browsing sofas and lamps can pick one up for a friend. A solo interior designer can send the file by email for a client to forward. An online shop can attach the downloaded PNG to a gift order. In every case, the terracotta card looks warm and homely, which reflects the products.
Add your phone number or website in the line at the bottom if you want the recipient to know how to redeem it.
Alternatives for other kinds of shop: the handmade craft gift certificate and the retail store gift certificate. See all in gift certificates and vouchers.
