Under the sea, every girl is a mermaid, and every boy is a pirate (or a mermaid, too). A Mermaid Party is a sparkly, splashy celebration, perfect for a pool party or a magical afternoon at home. This invitation shimmers with mermaid-tail scales and drifts down to a sandy sea floor.
Scales at the Top, Sand at the Bottom
The 5 x 7 inch card is an underwater scene in bright sea blue. The top of the card is covered in mermaid-tail scales: rows of overlapping rounded scales that shade from deep purple through violet and blue to aqua, each with a soft light highlight. A gentle wave separates the scales from the open water below. White bubbles of different sizes float up the edges.
In the water, Come swim with us sits in white capitals. Lily’s Mermaid is set in white Lobster script, and Party in hot pink, both with a dark navy shadow. She is turning 7! follows in white. The details are centred below: date and time, pool name and address, a white italic note about swimsuits, towels, tails and tiaras, and a purple RSVP line. At the bottom, a wavy sandy sea floor stretches across the card, with green seaweed swaying on both sides, a pink shell and two pebbles in the sand. A cute mermaid kitty, with a crown and a lilac tail, swims near the seaweed on the left. The OTO logo sits on the sand.
Pool Party Safety Notes
Mermaid parties are often pool parties, and water safety comes first. Share these points with parents and plan them before the day:
- Designate at least one adult water watcher at all times, with no phone.
- Ask parents of non-swimmers to stay or bring arm bands.
- Check the pool’s rules on age limits, lifeguards, and inflatables.
- Keep food and drinks away from the pool edge.
- Set a no-running rule around the pool.
- Have towels, sunscreen, and shade ready.
- Time pool sessions in blocks, with breaks for food and crafts out of the water.
Mermaid Crafts and Games
| Activity | What happens | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Shell crowns | Decorate paper crowns with shells and gems | Ages 4 and up |
| Treasure hunt | Dive for coloured rings or pearls in the shallow end | Confident swimmers |
| Mermaid tail race | Hop in pillowcase tails across the lawn | Dry land fun |
| Sand art bottles | Layer coloured sand in little bottles | A calm activity |
| Bubble station | Giant bubble wands and bubble machines | Toddlers and siblings |
| Under-the-sea dance | Freeze dance to ocean-themed songs | Everyone |
Food from the Sea (Sort Of)
Ocean-themed food is easy and fun. Goldfish crackers, blue jelly cups with gummy fish, sandwiches cut into star and shell shapes, fruit skewers called sea wands, and mermaid punch in a blue-green colour. For the cake, a two-tier cake with a chocolate mermaid tail on top, or cupcakes topped with shell-shaped chocolates in pastel colours, look stunning. Iridescent sprinkles make everything feel magical, and a scattering of edible pearls on the cake board finishes it off.
Making the Card Shimmer Your Way
All the text is editable with a double-click: change the name, age, date, time, venue, note, and RSVP. Lily’s Mermaid Party can become Sofia’s Under the Sea Party or Mermaids and Pirates Party for siblings with different tastes.
The scale band at the top is a single grouped object; recolour it to pinks and corals, or to greens and golds, for a different mermaid. The bubbles, the seaweed and the sea floor are each grouped, so you can move or recolour them easily. The mermaid kitty is an editable vector illustration you can recolour from its swatches or flip to face the other way. The sea-blue background can change to deep turquoise or lavender in one click. Fonts are Lobster and Montserrat, both in the editor.
Decorations to Match the Card
- Purple, teal, and aqua balloons, with a few iridescent ones.
- A fishing-net backdrop with shells, starfish, and fairy lights.
- Sheer fabric in blue and green hung like waves.
- A mermaid crossing sign at the entrance.
- Party bags made from shimmering scale-print paper.
A Mermaid Welcome at the Door
Start the magic as soon as guests arrive. Greet each child with a shell necklace, a plastic tiara, or a strand of pearl beads, and invite them to choose a mermaid name from a list, such as Coral, Marina, Pearl, or Splash. A mermaid transformation table with face glitter, scale-pattern face paint, and temporary tattoos keeps early arrivals busy while everyone else arrives. For a pool party, set up a towel station where each child gets a towel with a clothes peg showing their name, so nothing gets mixed up at the end of the day. A small mermaid tail blanket or fabric tail to borrow makes wonderful photos for parents to take home.
Printing Under the Sea
Download the PDF and print on bright white card; the scales and bright sea blue look vivid on a smooth stock. A semi-gloss or pearlescent card makes the scales shimmer. For a sweet touch, add a few iridescent sequins to the envelope. You can also download a PNG or JPG to send to parents in a class group.
Mermaid Party Questions
What favours suit a mermaid party?
Seashell necklaces, mermaid tail keyrings, bubble wands, and small bags of chocolate coins as sunken treasure are all popular.
Does the party have to be at a pool?
Not at all. A mermaid party at home with crafts, games, and a bubble machine is just as magical.
What should guests wear?
Swimsuits for a pool party, or mermaid tails, tiaras, and sea-coloured outfits for a party at home.
How many children should I invite?
For a pool party, keep it to the number you can supervise safely, often eight to twelve.
Can boys come to a mermaid party?
Of course. Many families add a pirate theme alongside, and mermaid tails are for everyone.
Type the birthday girl’s name, add your pool and date, and send the invitations swimming out. See you under the sea.
