Selling Gym Memberships as Gifts: What to Get Right
A gym certificate has to do more than say “membership.” It has to say which kind, for how long, and from what date. This template is built around that need. Unlike a simple dollar value card, it has fields for Membership Type, Value, Start Date and Expiry Date, so every detail is on the card and nothing is left to argument at the front desk.
Black, Lime and a Leg Press
The certificate is 3.375 x 2.125 inches in landscape, the size of a credit card. The left half is solid black. A diagonal band of lime green slices across the card, with a thin lime outline beside it, and the right half is filled by a photograph of a man in a lime shirt working a leg press machine, with treadmills and weights behind him. At the top left, a round logo placeholder shows a stylised athlete above the words GYM LOGO.
The title FITNESS & GYM MEMBERSHIP is set in lime green capitals, with Gift Certificate in a white italic script below it. Underneath are lime lines for Recipient’s Name, From, Membership Type, Value, Start Date and Expiry Date. The type is set in Ubuntu and Inter.
A Small Wording Fix
The Start Date label currently has a spelling slip (“Strat Date”). Click it in the editor and correct it to Start Date before you print. It takes a moment and keeps a membership card looking professional.
Fields and How to Use Them
- Recipient’s Name goes on the first line.
- From records the buyer, which helps with thank-you messages.
- Membership Type can say Monthly, Annual, Student or Personal Training.
- Value starts with a dollar sign for the price.
- Start Date and Expiry Date sit on the same line to save space.
Changing the Photo and Logo
Click the photograph, choose Replace Image, and upload a picture of your own gym, studio or classes. A bright, well lit picture of your equipment sells better than any stock image. Replace the round logo by clicking it, or place your own logo above it.
Practical Points for Gym Owners
- Decide whether the gift can be transferred to another person and say so.
- Offer a joining fee waiver for gift recipients to make the present worthwhile.
- Print terms on the back by duplicating the page.
- Keep a spreadsheet of Start and Expiry Dates so renewals can be offered.
Getting Solid Black and Bright Lime to Print
Black backgrounds look sharpest on matte card stock between 250 and 300 gsm. A laser printer or a print shop will give the cleanest solid black. Test one copy to check that the lime lines do not look dull.
Seasonal Gym Offers That Work With This Card
January is the busiest month for gym joiners, so the weeks before it are ideal for gift sales. Offer a bundle: a three month membership with a free session with a trainer, or a family pass for two adults and two children. Print the details in the Membership Type line, and the recipient sees exactly what the gift contains.
