Many people who intend to vote simply forget, or are not sure when and where. Nonpartisan reminders from civic groups, neighbourhood associations, libraries and student organisations help more people take part in elections, without telling them whom to vote for. This door hanger is designed for that civic job. A navy ballot box with a ticked ballot sliding into the slot sits at the centre; Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, impossible to miss, and a white box gives the practical details: poll hours, ID, and how to find your polling place.

A Ballot Box at the Centre

This single-sided hanger measures 4.25 x 11 inches. The background is a soft warm grey-beige, with a navy band around the door hole at the top. Below it, Your voice · Your vote sits in red spaced capitals, Election Day in large navy Archivo Black, and Tuesday, November 3 underneath. The middle of the card shows a navy ballot box with a darker slot, and a white ballot with a teal check mark tilting into the slot. VOTE is printed boldly on the box. A white rounded box gives the details: polls open 7 am to 8 pm, bring a photo ID if your state requires one, find your polling place at vote411.org. Below, a line offers a ride to the polls with a phone number, and the footer credits A nonpartisan reminder from the Maple Ward Civic League.

Staying Truly Nonpartisan

A voting reminder only works if everyone trusts it. Do not mention candidates, parties, ballot measures, or issues. Use neutral colours and wording, and make sure the organisation distributing it is genuinely nonpartisan. Some charities and nonprofits are legally restricted from partisan activity; this kind of neutral reminder is usually permitted, but check the rules that apply to your organisation.

Filling In Local Election Details

Edit the date, poll hours, and ID line to match your jurisdiction. Voter ID rules vary widely: some places require photo ID, some accept other documents, and some require none. If you are unsure, use neutral wording such as: Check ID requirements at your election office’s website. The polling place link can be your county or state election site, or a nonpartisan lookup tool.

Early Voting and Mail Ballots

Many places offer early voting or mail-in voting. If yours does, add a line to the details box, such as Early voting Oct 19-31 at City Hall or Mail ballots must be received by 8 pm on Election Day. Clear deadlines help people plan, especially those who work long hours on Election Day.

Rides to the Polls

Transport is a real barrier for some voters, especially older residents and people without cars. If your group offers free rides, keep the line on the hanger and make sure the phone is staffed on Election Day. If not, replace it with information about public transport or accessible voting options.

The Ballot Box Illustration

The box, slot, ballot and check mark are simple shapes in a group. Ungroup to recolour them; keep colours neutral rather than using party colours. You can change VOTE to VOTA for a Spanish-language version, or print versions in the main languages spoken in your neighbourhood.

Organisation Name in the Footer

Change Maple Ward Civic League to your organisation’s name. Voters are more likely to trust a reminder when they know who sent it. If your group has a logo, add it near the footer; keep it small so the reminder stays the focus.

Door Hole and Slit Marks

The dashed circle near the top marks where to cut the hole, and the dashed slit beside it lets the hanger slip over a doorknob. Printers die-cut these quickly; volunteers can cut small batches with a circle punch.

Printing for Volunteer Drops

Download as a PDF and print on 12 to 14 pt card. Because this design is single-sided with a light background, it prints well on office printers for small neighbourhood drops. For thousands of copies, use a print shop and ask for a proof to check dates and links carefully.

Timing the Reminder

Deliver reminders three to seven days before Election Day, close enough to be remembered but early enough for people to plan. A second wave the weekend before is common for get-out-the-vote efforts. Avoid any area where local law restricts activity near polling places on Election Day itself.

Readable Reminders in More Than One Language

Make the reminder easy to read: large type, high contrast, and plain language. Consider translations for neighbourhoods where many residents speak other languages, and mention accessible voting options, such as curbside voting or accessible machines, where they exist.

Partnering With Local Institutions

Libraries, schools, places of worship, tenant associations and senior centres are trusted messengers. Partner with them to distribute reminders, display a stack at the front desk or include them in community newsletters. A reminder from an organisation people already trust carries more weight than one from an unknown group, and it reaches residents who might not open their door to canvassers.

Checking Facts Before Printing

Election details change: polling places move, hours differ for special elections, and deadlines vary by state. Confirm every date, time, and link with your official election office before printing, and print a small date in the footer so anyone finding the hanger later knows which election it refers to. Accuracy is what makes a civic reminder valuable.
