Not every Christmas party wants tartan, glitter, and twelve kinds of ornaments. Design studios, architects, galleries, young couples in city apartments, and anyone who loves a clean interior often want an invitation that feels calm and confident. This 5 x 7 inch template is built on white space: one fir branch, one red dot, very large lettering, and a neat grid of details. It looks like something from a design magazine, and it still says Christmas the moment you see it.

Less Decoration, More Intention

Minimal design is not about leaving things out at random. Every element on this card has a job:

  • The fir branch reaches in from the top right corner. It is the only illustration, so it carries the season on its own, with a few red berries and a pine cone for colour.
  • The red dot in the top left corner balances the branch and acts like a small full stop for the eye.
  • HOLIDAY GATHERING 2026 sits in tiny spaced capitals beside the dot, like the label on a gallery wall.
  • Merry in very large forest green DM Serif Display, then bright. In italic beneath it is the headline. The full stop after bright is deliberate; it gives the line a quiet, finished tone.
  • A hairline rule separates the headline from the details.
  • Three rows, WHEN, WHERE and RSVP, each with a red label on the left and the information on the right, separated by pale grey lines.

Why DM Serif and Space Grotesk Work Together

The pairing is DM Serif Display for the headline and Space Grotesk for everything else. DM Serif Display is a high-contrast serif with elegant italics, which gives the words Merry and bright a magazine cover feel. Space Grotesk is a geometric sans with slightly quirky letterforms, which keeps the details modern and readable. If you change fonts, keep the same idea: one expressive serif, one clean sans, nothing more. Adding a script font would break the minimal look.

Filling In the Details Grid

The grid is made of simple text boxes and lines, so editing is easy:

  1. Click the WHEN value and type the day, date, and time on two lines.
  2. Click the WHERE value and type the venue and city on two lines.
  3. Click the RSVP value and type the reply deadline and an email or phone number.
  4. If you need a fourth row, such as DRESS or BRING, copy one label, its value, and its line, paste them, and move them down.

Keep each value to two short lines. The grid looks best when every row has the same height.

Swapping the Green and Red Accents

The design uses only two colours besides black: forest green for the headline and red for the dot and labels. Changing these two colours changes the whole personality. Navy and gold feel elegant. Burgundy and blush feel warm and romantic. Black and red feel bold and graphic. Keep the background white and the hairlines pale; that is what makes it minimal. The fir branch is an editable vector, so you can recolour its needles and berries to match your new palette.

Printing a Minimal Invitation Well

White space shows the quality of paper more than any other style. Choose a smooth, bright white card of 300 gsm or heavier; a cotton or uncoated stock feels luxurious in the hand. Download the PDF and print at 5 x 7 inches. If your print shop offers letterpress or a thicker duplex card, this design is ideal for it, because the large headline and fine lines look beautiful pressed into the paper. Plain white or kraft A7 envelopes complete the look.

Digital Versions

Download a PNG for email, where the white background blends with most email layouts, or a JPG for messaging apps. On a phone screen, the large headline stays readable, and the grid reads like a tidy event card. If you send a digital version to a company list, add the event to a calendar invite as well, with the same wording.

Mistakes to Avoid With Minimal Designs

  • Adding extra clip art to fill the white space. The space is the design.
  • Centring everything. This layout is left-aligned on purpose; centring would make it look like a standard card.
  • Using long sentences in the grid. Short values keep the rhythm.
  • Printing on cheap, thin paper. Grey or translucent paper makes white space look accidental.

Event Planning to Match

A minimal invitation sets expectations for a stylish evening. Echo it with a simple palette at the party: white candles, greenery on the table, a single colour for napkins and glassware. In 2026, Christmas falls on a Friday, so many studios hold their gatherings on Friday, December 11 or Friday, December 18, as in the sample.

Minimalist Invitation Questions

Can I add our logo?

Yes. Replace the red dot with a small logo by adding a shape from the Elements panel and using Replace Image, keeping it no larger than the dot area.

Can I change Merry and bright to another phrase?

Yes, but keep it short. Season’s greetings, Let’s celebrate, and Cheers to us all fit well on two lines.

Is there a back page?

No, but you can use Add Page to create one with a map or a short note.

Hosting a Party That Matches a Minimal Invitation

Guests who receive a calm, modern invitation arrive expecting an evening with the same feel, so it is worth carrying the design through. Keep decorations to one material and one colour family: plenty of fresh greenery, plain white candles at different heights, and a single accent such as red napkins or green glass. Play music quietly in the background rather than a loud playlist. Serve a short menu of beautiful small plates instead of a crowded buffet. If you have a tree, dress it in white lights and one type of ornament. Small consistent choices like these make the whole evening feel designed, and guests often comment on how relaxing the space feels compared with the busy parties of the season.

Send Something Quietly Beautiful

Type your details into the grid, choose your two accent colours, and print on good paper. In a season full of busy cards, a calm one is the one people notice.
