Few things say winter like a mug of hot chocolate piled with marshmallows. A hot cocoa bar party turns that into an event: a table of mugs, a pot of cocoa and a row of toppings, and guests build their own perfect cup. It works for families, children’s playdates, neighbourhood gatherings, school events, and casual afternoons with friends. This 5 x 7 inch invitation shows a big red mug with a striped band, a candy cane stirrer, and marshmallows, on an icy blue background with falling snow.

What the Invitation Shows

The background is pale ice blue scattered with white snow dots. The top half is a large red mug with a white band of red diagonal stripes, brimming with dark cocoa and topped with four marshmallows, a red and white candy cane leaning out, and three curls of steam above. Below the mug, Hot Cocoa is written in chocolate brown Pacifico and BAR PARTY in widely spaced red capitals. Six white rounded chips form a toppings menu: Marshmallows, Whipped cream, Peppermint, Caramel, Sprinkles and Cinnamon. The date, time, and host follow in navy, and a white snowdrift with a scalloped top edge fills the bottom of the card, holding the RSVP line.

Setting Up the Cocoa Bar

The cocoa

Make one large pot of rich hot chocolate and keep it warm in a slow cooker or a large insulated dispenser. For a crowd of 20, about four litres is a good start. Offer a dairy-free version made with oat milk for guests who need it.

The toppings

Put toppings in small bowls with labels. The six on the invitation are a classic set. Other favourites include chocolate chips, crushed cookies, chilli flakes for adults, orange zest and mini candy canes.

The mugs

Mismatched mugs from charity shops look charming. For bigger groups, use paper cups with sleeves and let children decorate them with markers.

The extras

A plate of cookies, a basket of blankets, and a Christmas movie playing quietly in the background turn a drink into a party.

Changing the Toppings Menu

  1. Change the date and time line. The sample is Saturday, December 5, 2 to 5 PM.
  2. Replace the host family and address.
  3. Edit the toppings chips to match what you will serve. Each chip is a rounded shape with a text box; click the text to change it.
  4. Update the RSVP name and number in the snowdrift.
  5. Recolour the mug if you like; it is an editable vector with swatches for the red, the stripes, the cocoa, and the marshmallows.

Variations on the Cocoa Theme

  • Cocoa and cookie swap: add a line asking guests to bring a dozen cookies to share.
  • Sledging and cocoa: invite everyone to meet at the park first and warm up afterwards.
  • Classroom cocoa party: change the address to the classroom and the RSVP to the teacher.
  • Adults’ cocoa night: add a topping chip for peppermint schnapps or Irish cream.

Allergy and Diet Notes

Cocoa bars are friendly to most diets, but check a few things. Many marshmallows contain gelatin, so offer vegetarian marshmallows if needed. Some toppings contain nuts or gluten. A small line on the invitation, such as Dairy-free and nut-free options available, reassures parents.

Printing the Cocoa Invitation at Home

Download the PDF and print on white card at 5 x 7 inches. The light blue background prints well on home printers. For children’s parties, print extras and send them home in school bags. For digital invitations, a JPG sent in parent groups works well; the large mug is eye-catching even as a small preview.

Decorating to Match

Bring the invitation’s look to the table with a blue and white tablecloth, paper snowflakes hanging above the cocoa bar and red mugs. Write topping labels on small cards in the same brown and red colours.

Cocoa Party Questions

Can I change the background to pink?

Yes. Click the background and choose any colour; soft pink or mint both suit the red mug.

Can I add more toppings?

Copy a chip and its text, paste it, and place it in a new row. Move the details down slightly to make room.

Is the snow editable?

The snow is a group of dots; you can delete it, recolour it, or move it.

Making the Cocoa Bar Look Beautiful

A cocoa bar is as much a display as a drink. Cover a side table with a white or red cloth and set the cocoa dispenser at the back so it is the first thing guests see. Arrange toppings in a row of small matching bowls or glass jars, each with a little label. Put mugs on a tray at one end and napkins and spoons at the other, so guests move along the table in order. A string of lights around the edge of the table and a small sign that reads Hot Cocoa Bar finish the scene. Children love being able to help themselves, so keep their favourite toppings at the front where they can reach. It becomes the natural centre of the party.

Leave a jug of cold milk and a plate of extra marshmallows nearby for refills, because the second cup is usually the one children remember.

When the party ends, offer guests a small bag of leftover marshmallows or a cocoa sachet tied with ribbon to take home. It is a sweet thank you that costs very little and reminds everyone of the afternoon.

Warm Up Your Guests

Fill in your toppings and details, send the invitation and stock up on marshmallows. A good cup of cocoa and friendly company are all a winter afternoon needs.
