Pastel Balloons, Bunting and a Cupcake on a Birthday Tag
Pink, yellow and teal balloons float down from the top corners of a soft cream tag, under a string of pastel bunting and scattered confetti dots. HAPPY sits in bold pink capitals and Birthday follows in a flowing teal script. Below the title, purple To and From labels sit above dashed lines, and a short wish fills the middle. A pink and yellow gift box with flowers sits in the lower left corner, and a swirled cupcake with a purple wrapper sits in the lower right. It is sweet and cheerful without being loud.
Tall Tag With a Clear Writing Area
The tag is 2 x 3.5 inches, portrait, the size of a business card turned upright. The balloons take the top third, the title and writing lines take the middle and the gift box and cupcake frame the foot, so the To and From lines always have clear space for a pen.
A Wish You Can Keep or Change
The message reads Wishing you a day filled with joy, love, and amazing memories! Enjoy your special day!. It works for any age, so most people will keep it. You can also type a short personal line instead, such as Happy 30th, Mia!, keeping it to three short lines so it does not crowd the cupcake. The To and From lines are dashed, which makes handwriting look neat.
Making the Birthday Tag Yours
- Keep or rewrite the short wish.
- Type the names or leave lines blank.
- Print several tags on one sheet.
- Cut along the edges.
- Punch a hole and add ribbon.
Printing Ten Tags on One Sheet
A 2 x 3.5 inch tag fits ten times on a letter sheet in two columns of five, just like business cards. Use the duplicate tool to fill a letter page, or print on perforated business card sheets so the tags pop out without cutting.
Punching a Hole for Ribbon
The top centre of the tag is the natural place for a hole, between the two balloon bunches. Use a standard single hole punch about a quarter inch from the top edge, then thread curling ribbon or baker’s twine through it.
Writing Names With the Right Pen
Matte card takes most pens well. A fine felt tip in purple or teal matches the label colour. Avoid gel pens on glossy stock, since they can smear when the tag is rubbed against wrapping paper.
Tags for Party Favour Bags
The same tag works on party favour bags. Type each child’s name in the To line and Thanks for coming in the From line, then staple a tag to each bag before the party.
Choosing Card Weight
Use card stock of at least 250 gsm so the tag does not bend or tear when it hangs from the ribbon. Heavier card also keeps the pastel colours from showing through to the back.
Using the Birthday Tags
Keep a spare sheet in your wrapping drawer for last minute presents.
