Stay on Top of Every Assignment From the Day It Is Given to the Day It Is Graded

Managing assignments becomes much simpler when teachers can see who received an assignment, when it was assigned, when it is due, its current status, and the final grade in one organized place. This Assignment Tracker Template is designed to bring all of those details together in a clear and practical format.

Unlike a personal homework planner, this tracker can be used by a teacher or instructor to monitor assignments for multiple students. Each row provides space for an assignment name, student name, assigned date, due date, progress status, grade, and notes. At the top of the page, fields for the teacher, subject, class, and month help identify exactly which set of records the tracker covers.

The template is fully customizable through our browser-based online editor. You can replace the sample information with your own details without installing special software or creating an account. No login is required. Once your assignment tracker is ready, download it in PDF, PNG, or JPG format for your preferred use.

What Can You Record in This Assignment Tracker?

The template is arranged to make assignment records easy to scan from left to right. Instead of keeping deadlines, submission information, and grades in different places, you can organize the essential details in a single table.

The tracker includes space for:

  • Teacher: Add the teacher or instructor responsible for the class.
  • Subject: Identify the subject or course being tracked.
  • Class: Enter the relevant class, grade level, or section.
  • Month: Specify the month covered by the assignment record.
  • Assignment: Write the name of each task, such as an essay, worksheet, report, quiz, or reading activity.
  • Student Name: Identify the student connected with each assignment entry.
  • Assigned Date: Record when the assignment was given.
  • Due Date: Enter the deadline for submitting the work.
  • Status: Show the current stage of the assignment.
  • Grade: Record a letter grade or another grading result after assessment.
  • Notes: Add a brief comment or other useful information.

Numbered rows make individual records easier to follow and reference.

Follow Assignment Progress With Clear Status Labels

One of the most useful parts of this template is the Status column. An assignment is not always simply finished or unfinished. It may have been submitted but not yet graded, currently be in progress, or not have been started at all.

The template provides five example status options:

Completed • Submitted • In Progress • Pending • Not Started

These labels provide a quick way to describe where each assignment currently stands.

For example, In Progress can identify work that a student is still completing, while Submitted can indicate that the work has been turned in. Pending or Not Started can help identify assignments that may still require attention.

You can customize these labels if your classroom uses different terminology.

Keep Assigned Dates and Due Dates Together

Knowing the deadline is important, but seeing both the Assigned Date and Due Date provides additional context.

With these two columns side by side, a teacher can quickly see when work was given and when it is expected to be completed. This can be useful when reviewing upcoming assignments or checking the timeline of a particular task.

It also helps create a more complete assignment record than a simple list containing only task names and deadlines.

Record Grades Without Losing the Rest of the Assignment Details

Once work has been assessed, the Grade column provides a convenient place to add the result alongside the original assignment information.

This means you do not have to look at one list to find the assignment and another just to see its grade. The assignment, student, dates, status, grade, and notes remain connected within the same row.

Depending on your grading system, this field can be adapted for letter grades, percentages, points, or another type of result.

Use the Notes Column for Details That Do Not Fit Anywhere Else

Not every useful piece of information belongs in a date, status, or grade field. That is why the template also provides a dedicated Notes column.

Teachers might use it for a brief assessment comment, reminder, or observation related to the assignment. For example, the sample tracker demonstrates how short feedback such as “Excellent” or “Good work” can appear next to a graded assignment.

Keeping comments short helps preserve the clean, easy-to-scan format of the tracker.

Designed for Tracking Multiple Students

This particular assignment tracker is especially useful when you want to record different student assignments on the same page.

Each row contains its own Student Name field, allowing a teacher to associate a task with a specific learner. This makes the layout suitable for maintaining a compact classroom assignment record rather than creating a separate page for every student.

Teachers can also adapt the format according to their workflow. For example, the tracker could be customized to focus on a particular subject, class, month, set of assignments, or group of students.

Customize the Template Online – No Login Required

You do not need to build an assignment tracking sheet from an empty page.

Open this template in the online editor and change the sample content to match your own classroom or educational needs. Update the teacher’s name, subject, class, month, student names, assignments, dates, statuses, grades, and notes as required.

The editing experience works directly through your web browser, making it accessible even if you do not regularly use design software.

Most importantly, you can customize the template without creating an account or logging in. Make your changes, review the completed design, and then download it when you are satisfied with the result.

Useful for More Than One Type of School Assignment

Although the sample includes English assignments, the structure is flexible enough for many subjects and assessment types.

You might use it for essays, reading tasks, worksheets, book reports, vocabulary quizzes, projects, presentations, research assignments, class activities, or other assessed work.

The subject field can be changed for Mathematics, Science, History, Language Arts, Computer Studies, or another course. This makes the same basic layout adaptable to different classroom situations.

Who May Find This Template Helpful?

The template is primarily designed with teachers in mind, but its simple structure makes it suitable for other educational environments as well.

Classroom teachers can use it to organize assignment records for students, while tutors or private instructors can adapt it to monitor assigned work and progress. It may also be helpful for homeschool educators, learning centers, after-school programs, and other educational settings that need a straightforward assignment tracking system.

Because the column headings are clearly labeled, the finished tracker can be understood without complicated instructions.

A Simple Workflow for Using the Assignment Tracker

Start by entering the teacher, class, subject, and month so that the page can be identified easily. As assignments are given, add the assignment title, relevant student’s name, assigned date, and due date.

Next, update the Status column as the work moves through different stages. When an assignment has been assessed, add the appropriate grade and a short note when useful.

Updating the tracker regularly helps keep the information meaningful. A status entered several days ago may no longer reflect the current situation, so checking and updating records as work progresses can make the tracker more useful.

Download Your Finished Tracker as PDF, PNG, or JPG

After you have personalized the template, you can download the finished design in PDF, PNG, or JPG format.

A PDF is a convenient option when you want a document for printing, saving, or appropriate sharing. PNG and JPG formats provide image versions that can be useful when an image file better fits your workflow.

Before downloading, review student names, assignment dates, statuses, and grades to make sure the information is accurate and up to date.

Make Assignment Records Easier to Understand at a Glance

A useful assignment record should answer the important questions without unnecessary searching: What was assigned? Who is it for? When was it assigned? When is it due? What is its current status? What grade did it receive?

This editable Assignment Tracker Template puts those answers into one structured, easy-to-read page. With additional fields for teacher, class, subject, month, and notes, it provides a practical overview of assignment activity while remaining simple enough for everyday use.

Customize the template directly in your browser with no login required, enter the information that fits your classroom, and download the finished assignment tracker as a PDF, PNG, or JPG whenever it is ready.
