A birthday party at home is noisy, joyful and full of people coming and going. A door hanger tells guests they’ve found the right house, gives neighbours a friendly heads-up about the noise, and adds one more decoration to the day. When the party ends, flip it round to say thank you. This two-sided design is full of colour and fun: balloons, confetti, a huge cake and a photo of the birthday star.
Front: Party in Progress
The front of this 4.25 x 11 inch hanger is a soft butter yellow sprinkled with confetti in pink, purple, blue and orange. Under the hole, PARTY IN in purple-black and PROGRESS! in hot pink are set in Luckiest Guy, a chunky cartoon typeface. Three balloons rise along each side edge, in pink, blue, purple, and orange, each with a shine highlight and a string.
In the centre, a white scalloped badge holds a round photo slot with a pink border, for a photo of the birthday child. A purple pill underneath reads Mia is turning 7! Below that sits a big two-tier cake: a pink bottom tier with white icing drips and yellow sprinkles, a blue top tier, and four colourful candles with flames. Come on in, the cake is this way! invites guests inside, and a purple footer tells neighbours: Party noise until 7 pm · thanks, neighbours!
Back: Party’s Over
The back is hot pink with white, yellow and blue confetti. PARTY’S in white and OVER! in big yellow letters announce the end of the fun, with a line saying Thank you for celebrating with us.We are napping off all that cake. A cluster of yellow, purple, and blue balloons floats in the middle. A white card asks Lost something at the party? and invites guests to ring the bell the next morning to collect it. Love, Mia & family signs off above a purple footer.
The Birthday Star in the Scalloped Badge
The circle in the scalloped badge is a photo slot. Select it and choose Replace Image to add a photo of the birthday child, the couple celebrating, or the dog having its first birthday. The image is cropped to the circle and keeps the pink border.
Name, Age and Times
Click the purple pill to change Mia is turning 7! Then update the noise time in the footer and the sign-off on the back. A quick checklist of what to edit:
| Where | Sample text | Change it to |
|---|---|---|
| Front pill | Mia is turning 7! | Name and age |
| Front invitation | Come on in, the cake is this way! | Where guests should go |
| Front footer | Party noise until 7 pm | Your end time |
| Back sign-off | Love, Mia & family | Your names |
Party Directions on the Door
Garden parties often start at a side gate, and some families prefer guests to go round the back. Change Come on in, the cake is this way! to Party’s in the garden, follow the balloons! Or shoes off and come on through. Clear directions save you from answering the door every two minutes.
A Thoughtful Note for Neighbours
The footer line is a small courtesy that goes a long way. Neighbours are far more tolerant of music and excited children when they know the party ends at a set time. For a bigger party, you might even hang a copy on the neighbours’ doors in advance.
Lost Property, Sorted
After every children’s party, someone leaves a jumper, a water bottle or a party bag behind. Is the back Lost something at the party? card tells parents what to do without a flurry of messages. Change the time to whenever suits you.
Recolouring Balloons and Cake
The balloons, cake and scalloped badge are made from simple shapes. Recolour them to match the party theme: blues and greens for a dinosaur party, purples for a unicorn party, or gold and black for a grown-up milestone. The cake is one group, so its colour swatches change every tier at once.
Themes for Every Age
- First birthday: soft pastels and Our little one is ONE!
- Teen birthday: black and neon with Party in progress, parents upstairs.
- Milestone birthday: gold and navy with Fabulous at 50.
- Pet birthday: paw prints and Biscuit is 3 today!
Making It a Keepsake
Print an extra copy and ask guests to sign the back before they leave. Laminate it afterwards and keep it with the birthday photos. Each year’s hanger becomes a small record of how the birthday child has grown.
Printing Party Side and Thank-You Side
Choose Download As PDF and print the two pages back to back on heavy card. The bright yellow and hot pink look best on bright white card with a satin finish. For a one-off party, a home printer is fine; print a spare in case one gets damaged during the party.
Cutting the Balloon Hanger
A dashed circle at the top marks the handle hole, and the dashed slit runs to the edge, mirrored on the back so both sides line up. Scissors and a circle punch are all you need.
Party Bags and Goodbyes
The last ten minutes of a children’s party are often the busiest: parents arriving, coats being found, party bags handed out. Turning the hanger to Party’s over! as the first parents arrive signals the end politely, so nobody feels rushed, but everyone knows it is time. Keep the party bags in a basket by the door for a smooth goodbye.
Grown-Up Celebrations
The design isn’t just for children. Swap the photo for one of the guest of honour, change the age to 30, 40 or 60, and recolour the balloons in gold and black or rose and cream. Party in progress works just as well for a surprise party, a graduation celebration, or a retirement send-off at home.
