A Christmas party where the price of admission is a toy for a child in need is a party with a purpose. Toy drive parties are hosted by fire stations, churches, schools, businesses, sports clubs, and generous neighbours. Guests enjoy cocoa, cookies and a visit from Santa, and every toy they bring goes to a shelter or charity in time for Christmas morning. This 5 x 7 inch invitation is shaped like a giant kraft gift box tied with a red ribbon and a big bow, with the invitation printed on a cream panel inside the box.

The Gift Box Design

A large kraft brown box with a slightly wider lid fills most of the card, set on a pale icy blue background with a soft shadow. A thick red ribbon runs down the middle and across, and a full red bow with green holly sits on top of the lid. In the top two sections of the box, BRING JOY TO OUR introduces Toy Drive on the left, and CHRISTMAS introduces Party on the right, in white Fredoka. A cream panel in the lower part of the box holds the key message: Admission: one new, unwrapped toy, in red. Below it, an italic line names the beneficiary, then the date, time, and venue, and a final red line promises cocoa, cookies, and a visit from Santa.

Why New and Unwrapped?

Most toy drives ask for new, unwrapped toys for good reasons. Charities need to check toys for safety and suitability before giving them out, and unwrapped toys can be sorted by age and gender so each child receives something appropriate. New toys ensure every child gets a gift that feels special. Put this request clearly on the invitation, as the sample does, so guests know what to bring.

Choosing a Beneficiary

Before hosting, choose a reputable local charity, shelter, hospital, or family support organisation to receive the toys. Contact them early to ask what they need most, the age groups they serve, and when and how to deliver the toys. Many charities have specific requests, such as gifts for teenagers, who are often overlooked, or books and art supplies. Mention the beneficiary on the invitation, as in the sample, to give guests confidence that their toys will reach children who need them.

Toy Ideas for Every Age

Suggest a range of gifts so all ages are covered. For babies and toddlers: soft books, stacking toys and bath toys. For young children: dolls, toy cars, building blocks, puzzles and art kits. For older children: board games, sports equipment, science kits and books. For teenagers: headphones, journals, makeup kits, gift cards and cosy blankets. Including a list in your follow-up message helps guests choose.

Planning the Party

A toy drive party can be a simple open house or a festive event. Set up a collection area near the entrance with large boxes labelled by age group. Offer warm drinks, cookies and snacks. A visit from Santa is a highlight for families. Firefighters, police officers, or local sports teams often love to help with community toy drives. Take a photo of the collected toys at the end to share with guests, so they can see the result of their generosity.

Editing the Toy Drive Invitation

Click the text in the box sections to change the title if you wish, for example, to Toy Drive and Open House. Edit the admission line, the beneficiary line, and the date and venue lines. The sample reads Saturday, December 12, 2 to 5 PM, Firehouse No. 7, 210 Main Street, Dayton. Update the final line to describe your activities. The box, ribbon and lid can be recoloured; a blue box with a silver ribbon gives a winter look.

Businesses and Organisations

Toy drives are a meaningful way for businesses to give back during the holidays. A company can host a toy drive party for staff and clients, with a corporate donation matching the toys collected. Add your company logo in the lid area using a shape from the Elements panel and Replace Image, and share the invitation with clients and on social media.

Promoting the Toy Drive

Share the invitation widely: in community groups, local newspapers and radio event listings, school newsletters and on social media. Post printed copies in shops, libraries and community centres. The more people who know about the event, the more toys you will collect.

Printing Toy Drive Invitations and Posters

Download a PDF and print at 5 x 7 inches. The light blue background prints well at home. For posters, print the design at letter or tabloid size. A red envelope matches the ribbon.

Sharing the Toy Drive in Parent Groups

Download a JPG and share it in neighbourhood and parent groups. Encourage people to share the post further to reach more donors.

Thanking Everyone Who Brought a Toy

After the event, thank everyone who donated with a social media post or email showing the toys collected and the number of children helped. Many charities send thank-you notes or photos that you can share. Gratitude encourages people to come back next year.

Toy Drive Questions

Can I accept cash donations too?

Yes. Add a line such as: Cash donations welcome for families with specific needs.

Can I change the ribbon colour?

Yes. Select the ribbon shapes and the bow and change their colours.

Is the date flexible?

Toy drives should finish a week or two before Christmas, so charities have time to distribute the toys.

Collecting Toys Before and After the Party

Not everyone who wants to give can attend the party. Set up a drop-off box at a local shop, school, or office in the weeks before, and mention it in your message with the invitation. After the party, keep the box open for a few extra days for latecomers. Arrange a date with the charity to deliver everything, and recruit a couple of volunteers with cars to help transport the toys.

Give the Gift of Joy

Choose your charity, fill in the details, and send the invitation. A party that brings joy to children in need is one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate Christmas.
