A baby’s first Christmas brings a flood of generous questions from grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends: What does the baby need? What size is she in now? Would she like toys or clothes? A simple wish list answers them all at once and helps everyone choose gifts that are useful, safe, and loved. This template puts your baby’s photo inside a Christmas ornament and organises their wishes into four gentle categories.
An Ornament With Your Baby Inside
The page is US Letter portrait, 8.5 x 11 inches, in a soft warm cream. A gold satin ribbon hangs from the top edge of the page, tied in a bow, and holds a gold ornament cap. From it hangs a large navy Christmas ornament with a fine gold ring, and inside the ornament is a round photo of your baby. Small gold and blush sparkles surround it.
Below the ornament, Baby’s First Christmas is written in the elegant Great Vibes script, with Wish List · 2026 in spaced gold capitals. Three handwritten fields follow: the baby’s name, date of birth, and the size they are wearing. Then come four rounded cards, each with a coloured header:
- Clothes & Sleepwear in powder blue;
- Toys & Play in blush pink;
- Books in soft sage;
- Keepsakes & Savings in warm cream.
Each card has three lines with gold bullet points. At the bottom of the page, a gold garland swings across a powder-blue band, with four little navy and pink ornaments hanging from it, and our logo in navy.
Buying the Next Size Up
Babies grow quickly, and clothes that fit in December may be too small by February. Many parents list the size their baby will be wearing in a month or two, not the size they wear today. Here is a rough guide to baby clothing sizes; brands vary, so check the size chart and your baby’s weight and length as well as their age.
| Baby’s age at Christmas | Wearing now (typical) | Size to suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Newborn to 2 months | Newborn/0-3 months | 3-6 months |
| 3 to 5 months | 3-6 months | 6-9 or 6-12 months |
| 6 to 8 months | 6-9 months | 9-12 or 12 months |
| 9 to 12 months | 9-12 months | 12-18 months |
The sample baby, Olivia, was born in June and is wearing 6–12 months, so her fleece footed pajamas are listed in the same size to last the winter.
What to Put in Each Card
Clothes & Sleepwear
Sleepsuits, footed pajamas, a warm hat and mittens, soft-soled first shoes, a special Christmas outfit for photos.
Toys & Play
Stacking rings, soft cloth blocks, an activity table, a play gym, bath toys. Choose toys labelled as suitable for your baby’s age, with no small parts.
Books
Touch-and-feel books, lift-the-flap stories, bath books and sturdy board books. Books make lovely gifts to inscribe with a note from the giver.
Keepsakes & Savings
A handprint ornament kit, a personalised stocking, a contribution to a savings account, a family photo session, a memory book.
Adding Your Baby’s Photo and Details
- Click the photo inside the ornament and choose Replace Image. Upload a close photo of your baby’s face; it fills the circle while the navy ornament and gold ring stay in place.
- Click the name, date of birth, and size to type your baby’s details.
- Replace the sample wishes on each card with your own. Keep each line short so it fits on one line.
- To suit your colours, recolour the ornament from navy to deep red or green, and adjust the card headers.
- Add a second page if you want to include a longer list, or a note of thanks from the baby.
Sharing With Grandparents and Godparents
A PNG image is perfect for the family group chat or a text message to grandparents. A PDF prints beautifully and can be posted inside a Christmas card. If one relative is coordinating gifts, send it to them and ask them to share it, so everyone knows which items have been chosen.
Safety First for Baby Gifts
Relatives love choosing toys, but not every toy is right for a baby. A short, friendly note on the list can help. Ask givers to choose toys marked as suitable for your baby’s age, and to avoid small parts, loose ribbons, button batteries and anything with long cords. Soft toys should be well stitched, with embroidered eyes rather than buttons for the youngest babies. Many parents also prefer that blankets, pillows and bumpers are not given for the cot, following safe sleep advice. Clothing with drawstrings around the neck is best avoided. If you have preferences, such as wooden toys, organic cotton or second-hand gifts, add them in one line on the page; most families are glad to follow them.
Printing as a Keepsake
Print on US Letter at actual size or fit to A4, on a colour printer. On matte photo paper or bright white card, the photo and ornament make a lovely keepsake to tuck into your baby book. Many parents print one extra copy just for the memories.
Thoughtful Touches for Relatives
Gentle notes on the list can steer gifts without sounding demanding. Try: We have plenty of toys, so books and savings gifts are extra special this year, or Please no noisy toys; our little one is a light sleeper. If you prefer eco-friendly or second-hand gifts, say so; most relatives are happy to know.
