Holiday photo cards are usually a December thing, which is exactly why a Thanksgiving Photo Card stands out. It arrives a month earlier; it is not competing with dozens of Christmas cards on the fridge, and its message is simple: we are grateful for you. This landscape photo card gives your picture more than half the card and keeps the rest calm and elegant.
Three Weeks Before Thanksgiving: Choose the Photo
The photo area covers the left side of the card, edge to edge, top to bottom. It is about 4.4 inches wide and the full 5 inches tall, an almost square frame that is slightly taller than it is wide. That shape suits:
- a family standing together in front of a door, a tree or a fence;
- a couple photo from an autumn walk;
- children in matching sweaters on a porch step;
- a newborn photo for a first Thanksgiving;
- a single portrait of a grandparent, for a card sent on their behalf.
Wide group shots will be cropped at the sides, so if your photo is landscape, make sure the people are in the middle. Warm daylight photos fit the cream and rust palette best.
Two Weeks Before: Add the Photo and Your Details
Click the photo area and choose Replace Image, then upload your picture. The frame stays the same size; your photo fills it. Then edit the text on the right.
The right-hand panel is warm cream, separated from the photo by a slim gold stripe. At the top, Grateful is written in large rust Great Vibes script, followed by a small gold italic ampersand and THANKFUL in widely spaced dark brown Josefin Sans capitals. A gold divider with a diamond leads to Happy Thanksgiving in italic serif, from the Morales family underneath, and the year 2026 in gold spaced numerals. Two golden wheat stalks rise from the bottom right corner, and the brand mark sits in a soft brown tint at the bottom of the panel.
Replace the family name and the year. If you would rather say something else under Happy Thanksgiving, short lines work best: love, Mai, Tom and baby Kai,from our home to yours, or with love from the lake house.
Ten Days Before: Print or Order
The card is 7 x 5 inches, the same size as a standard photo print turned sideways, which gives you two easy options.
Photo lab printing
Download the card as a JPG or PNG and order it as a regular 5 x 7 photo print. Photo labs print skin tones beautifully, and it is often the cheapest way to get a large batch. Choose matte or lustre finish so the script stays readable under lights.
Home printing
Download the PDF and print two per Letter sheet on photo card or a heavy matte stock, then trim. Make sure your printer is set to actual size.
One Week Before: Address and Mail
A 7 x 5 card fits an A7 envelope. Kraft or cream envelopes match the warm palette; a rust envelope looks especially good. Handwrite a short note on the back of a few cards, for example, to grandparents or to friends you have not seen this year. Aim to post them a week before Thanksgiving, so they arrive in time.
Thanksgiving Day: Share It Online
Post the PNG to social media or send it in a family group chat with a short message. On the day, a photo card is a warmer greeting than a plain “Happy Thanksgiving” text.
Designer’s Notes on the Layout
The split between photo and text is intentional. With the photo taking the left sixty percent, the people are the clear focus. The text panel stays quiet: one script word, one capital word, a family line, and a year. The gold stripe between them works like the edge of a picture mount, and the wheat in the corner ties the card to the harvest season without competing with the photo.
If you want a darker, more formal look, change the cream panel to deep burgundy and the dark text to cream. The gold stripe, divider, and wheat look rich on burgundy.
Taking a Photo That Suits the Grateful Card
If you do not have a recent family photo, it is easy to take one in an afternoon. Choose a spot with soft, warm light, such as a porch in the late afternoon or a park with autumn trees. Stand everyone close together, slightly turned towards each other, and take the photo in portrait orientation so it fills the frame without heavy cropping. Ask someone to take a dozen shots in a row; one of them will have everyone’s eyes open. Neutral clothes in cream, rust, olive, or denim blend with the card’s palette, while bright neon colours can overwhelm the soft text panel.
A phone camera is perfectly good. Use the original photo file, not a screenshot or a picture saved from a chat app, so the print stays sharp at 5 x 7 inches.
Wording Ideas for the Family Line
- From the Morales family (the sample).
- Love, Ana, Luis, and the twins.
- From our new home in Portland.
- From Grandma Rose and all twelve grandkids.
- From the four of us and one very spoiled dog.
Keep the line short enough to stay on one row in the narrow panel; two short words per line is a good guide.
Photo Card Questions
Can I use a landscape photo?
Yes, but the sides will be cropped. Centre the people, or use the photo area’s position settings to shift the image inside the frame.
Can I add a second photo?
Use Add Page to create a back side and place a smaller photo there, along with a short family update.
Is it suitable for a baby’s first Thanksgiving?
Absolutely. Change THANKFUL to baby’s first and the family line to the baby’s name and date of birth.
Can I remove the wheat?
Select the wheat pair and delete it. The panel still looks balanced without it.
A good photo and a few warm words are all a Thanksgiving card needs. Pick your favourite picture from this year, add your family name, and send your gratitude ahead of the holiday rush.
