Some place cards stand on the table. This one hangs. It is a small kraft-paper luggage tag with a punch hole at the top, made to be tied with twine around a rolled napkin, the stem of a wine glass, a mini pumpkin, or the back of a chair. The guest’s name is written in elegant script beneath a large golden oak leaf, so every place at the table looks like it has been set by hand.

What You Get

Each tag measures 2 x 3.5 inches, portrait, about the size of a business card standing on its end. The tag shape has its top two corners clipped off at an angle, exactly like a shipping or luggage tag, with a white punch-hole circle near the top edge surrounded by a darker kraft ring that marks where to punch.

The body of the tag is a warm kraft brown with a dashed cream line running round the inside edge, like stitching. A large golden oak leaf with brown veins fills the upper half, tilted slightly. Under it, the guest’s name sits in big Great Vibes script in dark brown (the sample is Olivia), followed by a short rust rule and THANKSGIVING 2026 in spaced rust capitals. The brand mark sits at the foot of the tag.

How to Make a Set of Leaf Tags

1. Make your guest list

Write every guest’s name the way you want it to appear. First names look best in large script; a long full name may need a smaller font size. Nicknames and family titles (Grandpa,Auntie Rae) work beautifully.

2. Edit the first tag

Click the name and type the first guest’s name. If the year or the words THANKSGIVING 2026 need changing, do it now, before you start the copies.

3. Download one tag per guest

Download the tag as a PDF or PNG, change the name, and download again. Repeat for everyone at the table. It is quick because only one line changes each time.

4. Print several to a page

Because each tag is small, print several on one sheet. In most print dialogs, you can choose multiple pages per sheet or open the PNGs in a photo-printing tool that arranges them. A US Letter sheet comfortably holds eight to ten tags at actual size.

5. Cut out the tags

Cut along the outer edge of each tag, including the two clipped corners. A paper trimmer gives cleaner straight edges; small scissors are easiest for the angled corners.

6. Punch the hole

Use a standard single hole punch, centred on the printed hole. If you have a tag reinforcement ring or an eyelet tool, add it for a finished look.

7. Thread and tie

Thread jute twine, baker’s twine, thin ribbon, or raffia through the hole. Tie the tag where you want it with a simple bow.

Where to Hang Your Tags

  • Around a rolled linen napkin on each plate, with a sprig of rosemary tucked into the knot.
  • On the stem of each wine or water glass, which also stops people mixing up glasses.
  • On a mini pumpkin or a pear at each setting, a favour guests can take home.
  • On the back of each chair, so names are visible as people walk in.
  • On small jars of homemade jam or spice mix as take-home gifts.

Paper That Makes the Tags Feel Real

For the most authentic look, print on actual kraft card stock. The printed kraft colour and the real paper together give a rich, slightly textured result. Heavy white card (80 lb cover or more) also works well, because the tag’s background is printed. Avoid thin copy paper: tags hang and turn, so they need some stiffness.

If you print on real kraft paper, note that light colours, such as the cream stitching line, will look softer. That is part of the charm.

Customizing the Leaf Tag

The oak leaf is editable vector artwork. Select it to recolour it from its swatches: make it deep red for a burgundy table, or pale green for an early-autumn feel. You can also swap it for another leaf or a small pumpkin from the editor’s Elements panel. The dashed stitching line and the tag shape are separate shapes, so you can change the tag colour to cream, sage, or charcoal and keep the stitching contrasting.

If you want the tags to double as menus, replace THANKSGIVING 2026 with a dietary note for that guest (vegetarian plate) so the server knows at a glance.

Leaf Tags as Take-Home Favours

Because the tags are small and pretty, guests often slip them into a pocket at the end of the night. You can lean into that. Tie each tag to a little favour instead of a napkin: a bag of spiced pecans, a jar of cranberry jam, a mini loaf of pumpkin bread or a packet of wildflower seeds. Place the favour at each setting with the tag facing the chair, and it does the job of a place card during dinner and a thank-you on the way out.

For children, a tag tied to a small bag of candy corn or a pumpkin-shaped cookie is an instant hit, and it helps them find their own seat without help.

Making the Leaf Tags with Kids

Cutting out and threading tags is a calm, useful job for children on the morning of Thanksgiving. Let older kids use the paper trimmer with supervision, and give younger ones the twine and the job of tying bows. If they want to, they can add a small drawing or a sticker on the back of each tag before it goes on the table.

Leaf Tag Questions

Can I print the tags in a larger size?

Yes. Scale the print up to 3 x 5.25 inches for gift tags on bottles or baskets; the design keeps its proportions.

Will the script name be readable at this size?

The name is set large enough to read easily from a seat. Very long names should be reduced a little so they stay inside the stitched border.

Can I use the tags for other occasions?

The leaf makes them perfect for any autumn event: a harvest wedding, a fall birthday, or a Friendsgiving. Change the year line to the occasion.

Is there a back side?

The tag is one-sided. If you want a message on the back, use Add Page to create a second page the same size and print it double-sided.

Hand-tied tags are a small detail guests notice and remember. Type your names, print on kraft card, and spend ten minutes with a hole punch and twine. Your table will look as if it took all day.
