Boy or girl? Pink or blue? For a few more days, nobody knows, and that is exactly the fun. A Gender Reveal Party gathers your favourite people to guess, cheer, and find out together. This square invitation keeps the secret beautifully: one big black balloon with a gold question mark, floating between Team Pink and Team Blue.

Pink, Blue and a Mystery Balloon

The card is square, 5 x 5 inches. It is split diagonally from the lower left to the upper right: soft baby pink above, pale sky blue below. White, pink, and blue confetti dots and strips are scattered across both halves. TEAM PINK is written in rounded Fredoka One capitals in the top-left corner in deep rose, and TEAM BLUE sits in the lower right in navy, ready for guests to pick a side.

In the centre floats a large black balloon with a gentle highlight and a curly string, and on it a big gold question mark. He or She? is set across the lower part of the card in white Fredoka One with a dark shadow. A white strip along the bottom carries the details: GENDER REVEAL PARTY FOR BABY PATEL in small capitals, the date, time, and address, and a line asking guests to wear pink or blue and RSVP. The OTO logo sits at the very bottom.

Reveal Ideas, With Safety in Mind

The reveal moment is the climax of the party. Choose a method that suits your space, your guests, and your comfort level. Some reveals have caused accidents and wildfires, so here are popular options that are safe and still exciting.

Reveal methodHow it worksSafety note
CakeCut into a cake with pink or blue sponge or fillingCompletely safe and delicious
Balloon boxOpen a big box and pink or blue balloons float outUse helium balloons indoors or tie them to avoid litter
Confetti balloonPop a black balloon filled with coloured confettiUse biodegradable confetti and collect it afterwards
PiñataBreak a piñata full of pink or blue sweetsKeep children back from the swing
Silly string or powder cannonEveryone sprays at onceUse outdoors, away from faces, never near flames
Envelope readingA grandparent reads the result from a sealed envelopeLovely for small, family gatherings

Avoid fireworks, smoke bombs and anything explosive. A cake or a balloon box is just as exciting, and nobody ends up on the evening news.

Keeping the Secret Until the Big Moment

Many parents choose not to know the result themselves until the party. At the scan, ask the sonographer to write the result on a card and seal it in an envelope. Hand the envelope to the baker or a trusted friend who prepares the reveal. Make sure nobody posts on social media or lets anything slip; a quiet the envelope is in safe hands message to the family helps. On the day, gather everyone, count down from ten, and reveal together.

Party Games for Team Pink and Team Blue

  • Vote at the door: guests drop a pink or blue token into a jar as they arrive. Count the votes before the reveal.
  • Old wives’ tales quiz: how is the mum carrying? What has she been craving? Guests guess based on each clue.
  • Baby name brainstorm: guests suggest a name for each possibility.
  • Prediction cards: guess the birth date, weight, and length; open them after the birth.
  • Team photo: take a photo of each team before the reveal, then one of the winners afterwards.

Editing the Balloon, Teams and Details

Every line of text can be edited with a double-click. Change Baby Patel to your family name, and update the date, time, address, and RSVP. You can also rewrite He or She? as Boy or Girl?, Pink or Blue? or Bows or Bow Ties?.

The balloon, its highlight, and its string are one group, so you can move or resize it as one object. The question mark is separate text; change its colour, or turn it into the baby’s due month. The diagonal pink half is a single shape, so you can change the colours to mint and lavender, or yellow and green, if you prefer a less traditional palette. The confetti is one group you can recolour or move. The font is Fredoka One for the playful text and Montserrat for the details, both available in the editor.

Food and Decorations in Two Colours

Keep the decorations evenly split: half pink, half blue. Balloon arches in both colours with a single black balloon in the middle mirror the invitation perfectly. Serve pink lemonade and blue punch, cupcakes with pink and blue icing, and macarons in both colours. A dessert table with a big question mark sign behind it makes a great photo spot.

Square Cards in Print and on Screen

Download the PDF and print on bright white card, then trim to a 5-inch square. A pink or blue envelope, chosen at random, adds to the guessing game. Square envelopes may need extra postage, so check before mailing. For quick sharing, download a PNG or JPG; the square format is ideal for social media and family group chats.

After the Reveal

Once the colour is out, the party usually turns into a celebration with a lot of hugging. Take a moment to film everyone’s reactions, which are often the best part of the day. If you are sharing the news more widely, a matching announcement card in the winning colour makes a lovely follow-up for friends who could not come.

Gender Reveal Questions

When is a gender reveal party usually held?

After the anatomy scan, usually around 18 to 22 weeks of pregnancy.

Should guests bring gifts?

Gifts are not expected at a gender reveal; they usually come at the baby shower. Add: No gifts, just guesses if you like.

Can I combine a reveal with a baby shower?

Yes. Many parents do a reveal shower. Mention the registry as well as the reveal.

What if we want to keep the result private?

Then this card also works as a fun guess the gender party, with the reveal saved for the birth.

Add your family name and your date, and send out the mystery balloon. In a few weeks, the question mark will have an answer.
