Walk past any good taquería, and you’ll see strings of papel picado fluttering over the counter: bright tissue-paper flags with lace-like cut-outs, rippling in the breeze. This Mexican Taco Menu Template brings that festive feeling to your menu. Rows of colourful cut-paper flags frame the top and bottom of the page, and between them a clear taco price table and short lists make ordering easy, whether customers want one taco or a full plate.
Colour, Flags and a Clear Taco Table
The menu is US Letter, 8.5 x 11 inches, in portrait, on a warm masa-cream background. Across the top hangs a string of seven papel picado flags in hot pink, teal, marigold yellow, orange, and lime. Each flag has a zigzag bottom edge, a row of small diamond cut-outs, a six-petal flower in the middle, and two dots below. A second, smaller string of nine flags runs along the foot of the page.
Under the top flags, Taquería is written in flowing orange Kaushan Script above EL SOL in heavy chocolate-brown Alfa Slab One. A teal line reads STREET TACOS · BURRITOS · AGUAS FRESCAS.
The menu itself:
- TACOS, in terracotta slab capitals with a note on the standard toppings and a colourful taco illustration beside it, followed by a teal-headed price table. Its four columns are Taco, What’s in it, One, and Plate of 3, and it lists seven fillings from Al Pastor to a veggie taco with grilled nopal. A footnote explains that plates come with rice and beans.
- BURRITOS & BOWLS with a green avocado icon: four items with prices in hot pink and short italic descriptions.
- SIDES & BEBIDAS with a pink chili icon: chips and guacamole, elote, rice and beans, a salsa trio, and aguas frescas and sodas.
The address, phone number, and opening hours (Martes a domingo 11 am – 10 pm) sit above our logo, just before the lower row of flags.
A Salsa Heat Ladder for Your Menu
Customers love choosing salsas, but many are unsure how hot each one is. If you offer a salsa bar or a salsa trio, consider adding a heat scale to the menu. Here’s a typical ladder from mild to fiery, built on common chiles:
| Salsa | Main chile/base | Heat (1-5) |
|---|---|---|
| Pico de gallo | Fresh tomato, onion, a little jalapeño | 1 |
| Salsa verde | Tomatillo and serrano | 2 |
| Salsa roja | Roasted tomato and chile de árbol | 3 |
| Chipotle | Smoked jalapeño in adobo | 3 |
| Salsa macha | Dried chiles fried in oil with nuts or seeds | 4 |
| Habanero | Habanero with citrus or mango | 5 |
To add it, rename Salsa Trio in the Sides list to Salsa Bar and add one line per salsa with its heat number, for example, Salsa Verde · 2. Or use the chili icon itself, repeated one to five times, as a visual scale.
Filling In Your Taquería’s Menu
- Name: double-click EL SOL to type your restaurant’s name, and change Taquería to Cantina, Cocina, or Tacos if you prefer.
- Taco table: double-click the table (or use Edit Table Data) to change fillings, ingredients, and prices. Press + Row for birria, lengua, camarón, or seasonal specials. Rename the price columns if you sell tacos in twos, or add a Taco Tuesday price column.
- Burritos and sides: each item is a name, a price and, for burritos, a description. Edit them as normal text.
- Papel picado: each string of flags is one group. Select it and change its colours from the colour swatches, for example red, white and green for Independence Day, or purple and orange for Día de Muertos.
- Icons: the taco, avocado and chili are editable vectors. Recolour the avocado and chili from their swatches, or ungroup the taco to change its fillings’ colours.
Bilingual Menus Welcome Everyone
The template already mixes Spanish and English: taco names such as al pastor and carnitas stay in Spanish, with English ingredients beside them. That is how most taquerías in the US write their menus. It keeps the authenticity of the dish names while making sure every customer knows what they’re ordering. You can go further and write the headings in both languages, such as BEBIDAS · DRINKS or ACOMPAÑANTES · SIDES. The Alfa Slab One headings have enough room for a short second word.
Printing and Displaying the Menu
- Counter menu: laminate a copy or place it in a stand. The cream background hides salsa splashes better than bright white.
- Wall menu: ask a print shop to enlarge the PDF to 18 x 24 inches. The flags and the price table enlarge cleanly.
- Takeout bags: print on regular paper and staple a copy to every order.
- Social media: share a JPG before Taco Tuesday or on Cinco de Mayo to remind followers of your specials.
The flags are bright and use plenty of colour ink, so print one test page and adjust if the pink turns too purple on your printer.
Taquería Owners Ask
Can I add breakfast tacos?
Add rows to the taco table for chorizo and egg, potato and egg, or bacon and egg, or use Add Page for a separate Desayunos menu with its own flags.
How do I mark gluten-free or vegan items?
Add (GF) or (V) after the taco name and explain it in the footnote under the table. Corn tortillas are naturally gluten-free, which many guests appreciate knowing, but mention any shared fryers or surfaces.
Can the menu work for a Tex-Mex restaurant?
Yes. Swap the table for fajitas and enchiladas, rename the sides to include queso and chili con carne, and keep the flags. They signal fun, whatever the regional style.
Is there space for a margarita list?
Replace the two bebidas lines with margaritas and micheladas, or add a short list below the burritos if you drop one item.
¡Buen Provecho!
Hang the flags, fill the taco table, and put your prices where everyone can see them. Print it for the counter, the wall, and every takeout bag, and let your menu feel as lively as your kitchen.
