Pets are family, and at Christmas plenty of them get a stocking of their own. A Pet Wish List is part joke, part genuinely useful: it tells relatives and friends which treats your dog can safely eat, what size bed your cat needs, and which squeaky toy will survive more than five minutes. It also makes a lovely photo to share. This template puts your pet’s face on a golden ID tag hanging from a red collar.
A Collar Across the Page
The page is US Letter portrait, 8.5 x 11 inches, in warm tan. A dark green bone-shaped banner at the top announces My Pet’s Christmas Wish List in rounded Fredoka capitals. Just below, a bright red collar strap runs across the whole width of the page, with white stitching along both edges, a gold buckle on the right, and a red bow tied onto it.
Hanging from the collar on a gold ring is a large round golden ID tag, and inside the tag is your pet’s photo. Beside it, your pet’s name is written large in red Pacifico script (Biscuit in the sample), with lines for their breed and age and their human helpers. A Good Boy Meter shows five paw prints, four red and one pale, with a cheeky note underneath: the 5th paw is for the sock incident.
Four cream cards fill the lower half, each with a paw icon: Tasty Treats, Toys to Destroy, Comfy & Cozy, and Walks & Care. A trail of pale paw prints walks across the bottom of the page on either side of our logo.
A Pet-Safe Gift Checklist
Well-meaning relatives sometimes give pets gifts that aren’t good for them. Use the list to steer them towards safe choices, and consider adding a note like: Please check with us before buying food treats. Some things worth knowing:
- Chocolate, grapes, raisins, and anything sweetened with xylitol are toxic to dogs. Keep human Christmas treats well away from pets.
- Size matters: toys and chews should be too big to swallow. A toy that suits a terrier can be a hazard for a Great Dane.
- Tough chewers need durable toys; list the brands or types that last in your house.
- Cats love wand toys, scratchers and cosy hideaways, but string and ribbon should only be used during supervised play.
- Special diets: if your pet has allergies or a prescription diet, say so clearly on the list.
If you are ever unsure whether a food or product is safe, ask your vet.
Measuring for Beds, Collars and Coats
| Gift | What to measure | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Bed | Nose to tail base while lying stretched out | Add a few inches so there is room to sprawl |
| Collar | Around the neck where the collar sits | Leave room for two fingers underneath |
| Coat or sweater | Back length, neck and chest girth | Check the brand’s size chart |
| Harness | Chest girth behind the front legs | Harness sizes differ widely between brands |
Add the measurements to the Comfy & Cozy card so gift-givers can order the right size.
Personalising Your Pet’s List
- Click the photo inside the golden tag and choose Replace Image. A face-on photo, with ears and eyes in the middle of the circle, looks best.
- Type your pet’s name over Biscuit, then update the breed, age, and helpers lines.
- Adjust the Good Boy Meter: each paw is an editable vector, so recolour a red paw to pale (or the pale one to red) to change the rating. For a cat, change Good Boy Meter to Purr Meter.
- Fill in the four cards. The sample lists peanut butter biscuits, beef chew sticks, a squeaky reindeer, a rope tug toy, an orthopedic bed, a fleece blanket, a reflective leash, and pup-friendly shampoo.
- Change the colours: the collar, banner, and cards are simple shapes, and the bow is an editable vector sticker.
Fun Ways to Use a Pet Wish List
- Share it in the family group chat as a funny letter from the dog.
- Print it for a pet sitter or dog walker who wants to buy a small gift.
- Pin it by the door as a reminder of what your pet needs this winter.
- Use it for a rescue or shelter pet you are fostering to collect donations of treats and toys.
- Make one for each pet in the house and hang them near the stockings.
Treat and Toy Ideas by Budget
Pet gifts do not have to be expensive to be a hit. Here is a quick guide you can copy into the cards on your list:
- Under $10: a bag of favourite training treats, a tennis ball multipack, a catnip mouse, a festive bandana.
- $10 to $25: a durable chew toy, a puzzle feeder, a new collar tag engraved with your phone number, a cat wand toy set.
- $25 to $50: a reflective leash and harness, a heated pad for older pets, a scratching post, a grooming kit.
- Bigger gifts: an orthopedic bed, a cat tree, a GPS tracker, a pet camera for when you are out.
Donations are a lovely option too. Some pet owners ask friends to give to a local animal shelter in their pet’s name instead of buying another toy.
Printing Paw-fectly
Print on US Letter at actual size, or fit to A4. The warm tan background and gold tag look best on a colour printer; a matte card stock makes the photo sharp and the page sturdy enough to pin up. For sharing online, download a PNG.
