A portrait studio is a small theatre. There is a set, there are lights, and there is a person behind the camera who makes nervous clients relax in minutes. This Portrait Studio Photographer ID Card puts that stage on a badge. Your photo hangs on a seamless paper backdrop with a gold roll at the top, and two octagonal softboxes glow on stands on either side of it. It is a card for studio owners, staff photographers, headshot specialists, and anyone who wants clients to see a professional the moment they walk in.
A Studio Set in Miniature
The front is a deep charcoal, like a studio with the house lights down. At the top, a gold backdrop roll with dark end caps stretches almost the full width of the card, and a warm grey sweep of paper falls from it, curving softly at the bottom as seamless paper does when it meets the floor. LUMEN PORTRAIT STUDIO is printed in spaced white capitals across the top of the backdrop.
Your photo sits in the centre of the sweep with a crisp white border, exactly where a client would stand. On the left and right, two light stands rise from tripod legs to octagonal softboxes, each with a soft, warm glow and a small speed ring on the side facing your photo. Below the set, your name is set in Playfair Display, a high-contrast serif, and PORTRAIT STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHER runs in small gold capitals beneath it. A dark table lists your ID number, studio or lighting bay, the kinds of sessions you shoot, and a validity date. Our logo sits on a white plate, and a second gold roll closes the bottom edge, echoing the top.
The card is the standard CR80 size in a vertical layout: 2.125 x 3.375 inches.
Lighting Patterns Behind the Softbox Motif
The two softboxes on the card are a nod to the lighting set-ups every portrait photographer learns. If you print this badge for a team or for students assisting in your studio, it is a fun excuse to keep the classics in mind:
| Pattern | Key light position | Result | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Butterfly (Paramount) | High and directly in front of the face | Small shadow under the nose, glamorous and even | Beauty, headshots |
| Loop | About 30-45° to the side and slightly above | A small loop-shaped nose shadow | Everyday portraits, most faces |
| Rembrandt | About 45° to the side and higher | A triangle of light on the shadow-side cheek | Moody, classic portraits |
| Split | 90° to the side | Half the face lit, half in shadow | Dramatic, artistic work |
| Clamshell | One light above, a reflector or second light below | Very soft, flattering, few shadows | Corporate headshots, beauty |
The Studio Pass on the Back
Turn the card over, and the palette flips: a warm off-white body under a charcoal header with the gold roll repeated at the very top. STUDIO PASS is set large in white serif type with the studio name in gold. The rest of the back is practical:
- Studio hours in a two-column table: weekdays, Saturday, and Sunday by appointment. Edit it to match your schedule.
- A QR code labelled Scan to book a session, ideal for linking to your online booking calendar.
- Contact details with phone, email, address, and an emergency number.
- A short access note saying the holder can use the studios, props room and client lounge, and that the pass is not transferable.
- Signature lines for the photographer and the studio manager, above a charcoal footer with the website in gold.
Personalising the Lumen Card
- Photo: click the white-bordered photo on the backdrop and choose Replace Image. A portrait shot in your own studio, with your own lighting, is the perfect advertisement.
- Studio name: retype LUMEN PORTRAIT STUDIO on the backdrop and the STUDIO PASS subtitle on the back.
- Details and hours: select either table, click Edit Data, and type your own information. Use + Row to add holiday hours or a second studio location.
- QR code: open the Barcodes & QR panel and link it to your booking page.
- Backdrop colour: the sweep is a simple shape. Try a mottled blue-grey for a classic school-portrait feel, cream for newborn work, or a bold colour for a modern headshot studio.
- Softboxes: each light stand is one grouped object; move them closer, recolour the glow, or delete one for a single-light look.
Why a Portrait Studio Needs Staff Badges
Studios with more than one photographer, a receptionist, or assistants often host several clients at once: a family in one bay, a headshot session in another, a parent waiting in the lounge. Badges tell clients who is who at a glance and help them remember the name of the photographer they want to rebook with. For school and corporate headshot days, where you set up a portable studio in someone else’s building, a badge also satisfies front-desk security. And for studios that run workshops or mentor students, a badge with a different role (ASSISTANT, INTERN, MAKEUP ARTIST) keeps everyone clear on responsibilities.
Paper, PVC and a Charcoal Finish
The charcoal front with gold details looks refined on PVC or on a heavy matte cardstock. Gold in print is a flat tan, not metallic; for a touch of luxury, a print shop can add real gold foil to the rolls and title for a small batch of cards. Keep the white photo border visible when you punch the lanyard slot: punch above the top roll, near the edge. The warm off-white back makes handwritten signatures easy with a fine black pen.
Studio Owner Questions
Can I use this as a gift card or loyalty card instead?
The layout is designed as an ID, but you can adapt the back: replace the hours table with a loyalty stamp grid made with + Row and extra columns, and change STUDIO PASS to LOYALTY CARD.
How do I make a version for my makeup artist?
Duplicate the template, replace the photo and name, and change the gold role line to HAIR & MAKEUP ARTIST.
Can I show my studio’s logo?
Yes. Add your logo as an image near the top of the backdrop, or replace the studio name text with it, keeping our small logo plate where it is.
Open the template, put yourself on the backdrop, set your studio hours, and give every client a warm welcome at the door.
