Halloween Retail in One Small Card
The window for Halloween promotions is short and busy. Shoppers look for costumes and decorations in the last two weeks of October, then lose interest on November 1. A coupon for that window needs to be eye catching, simple and easy to redeem. This card has all three: a big flat percentage, a banner that says SALE, and a scene that says Halloween without any reading.
A Tour of the Artwork
The coupon is 6 x 2.5 inches in landscape. A dusk gradient of purple and orange runs behind a white content panel, with bat silhouettes at the edges and a black haunted house on the right. On the left, the word Halloween is set in heavy black type beside a SAMPLE LOGO. Below it, a grinning yellow jack-o’-lantern in a black witch hat sits on the lower edge.
In the middle, a black ribbon banner hangs from the top edge with SALE in white capitals, and a small QR code and the line Valid Until Nov 05, 2021 under it. The right side shows FLAT in grey above 30% in huge black numerals, with OFF ON ALL and an asterisk. A line at the bottom of the card starts with an asterisk and carries the Latin filler that becomes your terms. The fonts are Anton and Inter.
Finish the Sentence After OFF ON ALL
This coupon ends mid sentence: FLAT 30% OFF ON ALL followed by an asterisk. The words after “all” are left to you, and the asterisk points to the small print. Decide what the discount covers and write it in the footnote: “Flat 30% off on all costumes and accessories,” or “on all pumpkins and decorations.” A clear footnote avoids arguments at the till, and the asterisk is a sensible place for exclusions.
Update the Date and the QR Code
The sample date is November 5, 2021, so change it to a date shortly after October 31 of this year. The QR code is a picture. Replace it with a real code that links to your online store, a landing page or a sign up form, or delete it if you do not need one. Test the code by scanning it with a phone before you print.
Smart Uses During the Season
| Business | How to use the coupon |
|---|---|
| Costume shop | Flat 30% on accessories when you buy a costume |
| Garden centre | Flat 30% on pumpkins and autumn decorations |
| Bakery | Flat 30% on Halloween themed cakes |
| Party store | Flat 30% on tableware and balloons |
Printing the Dark and Bright Card
The orange and purple background and the black elements use plenty of ink. Print on 200 to 250 gsm silk or matte card stock and test one copy. Cut to size with a guillotine. The card is small enough to put in a bag with every purchase. Keep a few spare for social media posts, where a photo of the coupon draws attention.
A Spooky Window Display to Go With It
Large coupons work as posters. Print a bigger copy at a print shop and place it in your window, with a basket of the small cards beside the door. The black witch hat pumpkin is a friendly mascot you can reuse on social posts. Staff dressed in simple costumes during the sale week make the offer feel like part of the fun, and customers often take photos that spread the word.
