Skilled trades are short-handed almost everywhere. Carpenters, electricians, and equipment operators can pick their next job, and general laborers get offers from every site on the block. A hiring poster for construction has to be big, bold, and readable from the tailgate of a pickup. This one is: an 18 x 24 inch poster printed on a blueprint-blue background with a drafting grid, a yellow hard hat, a strip of NOW HIRING hazard tape across the corner, and the headline BUILD YOUR CAREER WITH US in giant condensed capitals. It is built for general contractors, home builders, electrical and plumbing contractors, roofers, excavation companies, union halls, and staffing firms that place trades workers.
Blueprint Paper, Hard Hat, Hazard Tape
Every element on the poster comes from the job site. The background is the deep blue of an old-school blueprint, overlaid with a fine drafting grid in two weights: a light line every half inch and a stronger line every two inches, like engineering paper. Hazard tape in yellow and black runs diagonally across the top-right corner with NOW HIRING repeated along it, cut off by the edge of the poster as if someone taped it there. The headline fills the upper half: BUILD YOUR in white, CAREER in enormous yellow Anton capitals, and WITH US in white, with a glossy yellow hard hat to its right.
The lower half gets down to business:
- A large crew photo slot with a thick white border.
- OPEN POSITIONS beside it, each trade with a yellow square bullet and its pay underneath: Carpenters at $32-40/hr, Licensed Electricians at $38-48/hr, Equipment Operators at $30–36/hr, General Laborers at $22-26/hr, and a Site Supervisor at $85,000 or more a year.
- WHY IRONLINE: top wages, medical and 401(k), paid apprenticeships, tools and PPE provided, and year-round work.
- A white QR code panel labelled SCAN TO APPLY.
- A title block (see below), and a full-width band of hazard stripes along the bottom edge.
The Title Block: A Spec Sheet Borrowed from Construction Drawings
Every construction drawing has a title block in its bottom-right corner: a small table with the project name, drawing number, date, and approvals. Trades workers read them every day. This poster uses the same idea for the job details as a real table object in the editor. Its yellow header reads CAREER SPEC SHEET · DWG NO. HR-27, and the rows hold:
| Row | Sample entry | What to put there |
|---|---|---|
| COMPANY | Ironline Builders | Your legal or trading name |
| LOCATION | Denver Metro, CO | Where the work is, including travel radius |
| START | Immediately | Start date or Spring 2027 season |
| SCHEDULE | Mon-Fri, 7 am – 3:30 pm | Typical hours and any weekend work |
| APPLY | ironlinebuilders.com/jobs | Website, phone or the site trailer |
To edit it, double-click the table or choose Edit Table Data, type in the cells, and use + Row to add lines such as LICENSING or UNION.
Filling In Your Trades, Wages and Crew Photo
- Company name: replace IRONLINE BUILDERS and the tagline at the top left.
- Headline: keep BUILD YOUR CAREER WITH US, or try JOIN THE CREW or WE’RE BUILDING. Shorter words can be set even larger.
- Trades and pay: each line has a title and a pay rate as separate text boxes. Five lines fit comfortably; for more, reduce the spacing a little.
- Crew photo: click the photo slot and choose Replace Image. A real photo of your crew on site, with hard hats and vests on, makes the strongest impression.
- QR code: select it and change the link in its options panel to your application form or careers page.
- Colours: the hard hat is an editable vector, and the yellow accents can switch to your company colour, orange for example, in a few clicks.
Poster Materials for Job Sites and Supply Yards
An 18 x 24 poster lives a hard life outdoors. Choose the material for where it will hang:
| Material | Best for | How to hang it |
|---|---|---|
| Poster paper, laminated | Site trailers, break rooms, supply counters | Tape or pins indoors |
| Foam board | Job fairs and trade school events | Easel |
| Corrugated plastic (coroplast) | Fences and outdoor site entrances | Zip ties through drilled holes, or an H-stake |
| Vinyl banner with grommets | Chain-link fences along busy roads | Bungees or zip ties at each grommet |
| Aluminium composite | Long-term signs at a yard or office | Screws or rivets |
What Gets Tradespeople to Call
Wages come first; post real numbers for each trade. After that, the details skilled workers weigh are steady year-round work, reasonable start times, whether tools and PPE are supplied, paid training or apprenticeships, and whether overtime is available. A photo of your actual crew builds trust quickly. And put the poster where trades workers already are: lumber yards, electrical and plumbing supply counters, equipment rental shops, trade schools, and the gate of your own busiest site.
Printing an 18 x 24 Inch Poster
Download the PDF and send it to a print shop or an online poster printer; most can print 18 x 24 on poster paper within a day. The design is built at full size, so text and the QR code stay sharp. The hazard stripes and blue background run to the edges, so ask for full-bleed printing, or accept a thin white border. Want a smaller version for noticeboards? Print it on 11 x 17 or US Letter paper: the layout scales down proportionally, and the QR code still scans at letter size.
Contractor Questions
Can I use it for a single trade?
Yes. Change the headline to ELECTRICIANS WANTED, delete the other trades, and use the space for requirements such as licence level and years of experience.
Can I add a Spanish version?
Many crews are bilingual, so it is worth doing. Click Add Page, copy the elements to the new page, and translate them; CONSTRUYE TU CARRERA CON NOSOTROS fits the headline space at a slightly smaller size.
Is the grid part of the background?
The grid is a single grouped object on top of the blue background. Lower its opacity if you want a cleaner look, or delete it for plain blueprint blue.
Open the template, list your trades and wages, drop in a photo of your crew, and get it hung at the supply yard before the next busy season starts.
